90mm on 4x5 is cool

    I bought a Toyo 45AII from a Japanese dealer and for a wicked bargain I got the camera, a 90mm super-angulon 5.6 MC lens, 6 film holders, and heaps of accessories for a really sweet deal.

    I hadn't used the 90mm lens until The day before yesterday. I mainly use 210mm. Seems like a really good all-rounder. Anyway I thought I'd give the 90mm ago and was really surprised at how well it came out. Despite having a pretty small image circle and really limited movements, still packs a pretty cool punch.

    Anyway here's the pic I took with it. Should probably bust it out more often. if you've seen these pictures elsewhere like faccebook etc sorry for spamming them everywhere, I'm pretty chuffed with them is all :smile:

    Nice images. I use my 90 on rare occasion but generally like what I see with it.

    The 90mm 5.6 SA is a very nice lens. Standard kit for a lot of architectural photographers when "wide but not wild" is needed. The f/5.6 has plenty of coverage for 4x5. I don't remember running out of coverage, though a few times the sky took on a wonderful deep blue (getting close to the edge of coverage, no burning required :smile:).

    I love it so much that I've got 3 of them.
    Bought a 90/8 SuperAngulon originally for the Travelwide (which I'm still waiting on, btw).
    Then got a deal on a 90/6.8 Angulon with a recessed lensboard.
    Then put a screwdriver through the aperture and shutter of my SA, within 24 hours I'd scored a Fujinon SWD for less than $200.
    Still keeping the 90SA elements, as soon as i get a deal on a shutter I'll swap the aperture markings over, put one of the Schneiders on my travelwide, and sell the other one...

    ps, love the shots. Did you have a filter on for the sky, or was that just a naturally contrasty tassie sky?

    Ouch. I'm still waiting on a 617 from Razzle but I think he may be ill :sad:
    I had a formatt hitech red 25 filter on. That filter basically lives on my camera/s.
    I have a deep red 29 filter but it's too think to fit in my Lee filter holder... any ideas how I could get it in? Been itching to use it with this ilford SFX film I've had for ages

    Wow, those are very nice! I need to get my 90mm SA out in the field; I've only really used it as a macro and near-macro lens, which doesn't really show off how wide it is (and avoids any risk of running out of movements).

    Looks like the lens is working very nicely here. I too have the same 90mm super-angulon 5.6 MC lens. It was my first go to wide angle until I got my 120mm 5.6 lens. I still use the 90mm, but not as much as the 120mm these days.

    The 90 on a 4x5 is really nice. A while back I had a 5x7 expander back for a Wista 4x5 and when I put my Fuji 90mm on the 5x7, it was beyond awesome. I had to play with the front standard to get it back far enough into the body so it could actually focus on infinity.

    No front movements at all, but the depth of field was really deep.

    I recently picked-up (for a good price, I think) a Caltar W-II 90mm f/8 lens that is reputed to be a rebranded SA. I've no reason to doubt that as it appears identical in sharpness and performance to other SA's I have owned and seen. Sort of a back door into a great lens.
