    Dear APUGers,

because stocks on old CHS 100 are running low and we are sold out in first formats, I wanted to let you know that we are about to release a new version of CHS 100.
We are very excited to announce a new film which will be available in all sheetfilm formats just like the old CHS 100.
The emulsion is already being made and coating is sheduled for April/Mai. After that we need to confection the new film which might take longer than expected as it is a new material and we work with it for the first time.

One of the reasons why CHS 100 had to be discontinued in 2012 was the unavailability of the spectral sensitizer (apart from other economic reasons).
We have tried to match CHS 100 II as closely as possible to the old film featuring:

    • a rock solid classic emulsion system which has been out there for decades
    • a sensitization close the one of the old CHS 100
    • a single layer emulsion
    • the same base material including the option of reversal processing
    • an optimized backside coating to fully prevent light piping (improvement)
    • a special anti halation layer between the emulsion and base for enhanced sharpness (improvement)
    • a full set of formats from 35mm to ULF including 120
    • a state of the art cascade coating avoiding all problems associated with older CHS100 productions (improvement)

The new film is manufactured in Germany and thus upgraded to our professional line.
Prices need to be adapted within reason but the film has also many improvements and will have a higher quality then the old CHS 100.
We will also be able to offer an even wider range of formats with lower MOQ´s.

    Best regards,

    Mirko

Will the CHS100 II have the same reciprocity behavior as the old one? I am asking as a pinholer and the low reciprocity factor of the CHS 100 made it a film very well suited for pinhole photography.

    Cheers

Thank you Mirko! All us film shooters owe you a lot for showing the way that a small outfit can make our materials work as products in this day and age. Your Silvermax is stunning stuff, the papers are fantastic, and now a NEW sheet film. Thank you thank you thank you.

Mirko, This is great News! I really appreciate the updates you put out here on Apug, as I just don't get the time to check the Adox/Fotoimpex sites as frequently as I would like.

Your work getting a new film, in all formats, is to be commended. ULF users are in need of film since the demise of Efke. Thank you.

Fantastic news---thanks, Mirko! I assume "all" sheet formats includes the nearly-orphaned sizes like 6.5x9cm and 3.25x4.25", which would be a particular relief since Efke 100 was about the last film available in some of those sizes.

I'm awaiting CHS 25 II very eagerly indeed...

A new emulsion, availabe in nearly all formats?

That is good news in many ways, not only filling a big gap for sheet film users.... But showing optimism about the film market, too.

Excellent - now we all need to do our bit and BUY SOME as soon as we can!

Not at this point. We are a small company and we cannot outran the very difficult market situation (from a manufacturers standpoint).
We focus on CHS 100 II for now and then we continue with Polywarmtone. Ask me again next year this time ;-)

I interpret this statement to mean that if CHS 100 II is a big enough success you can take that as a sign of a promising market for other emulsions. APUGers, you know your duty!

In all seriousness, I'm glad to have any new emulsion coming out and to have something in the niches vacated by Fotokemika; but I do find Efke 25 to have been a very special film, so I intend to continue living in hope.

    And +2.
I have a small supply of CHS 25 that I got for a special project, and I'm almost afraid to use it!
I will be happy to try some CHS 100 II when it becomes available, probably in 4x5 or 5x7.

I've seen this thread now... it's very interesting to hear about this new emulsion and expecially that will be available in all formats. I use the old emulsion on my 8x20" with very good result, so I'm waiting for to use it in my two usually format 8x20" and 8x10"...

Because of the many questions about certain sheet film formats I would like to point out that the new film will be made in Germany in our factory. So we can take advantage of our small and flexible sheetfilm confectioning unit were we can produce on demand.
Larger box sizes where the value of the box reaches a certain level can be made at no extra charge (for example panoramic 8 or 10 Inch film).
Very small sizes though, where the value of the film is low, will naturally create a lot of costs in relation to the box price for machine adjustment and packaging. So the small box sizes we will probably tie to a minimum order of 5 pce. or we collect orders.

    Best regards,

    Mirko

How 'bout the end of the year? Seriously, it's a process, a long and difficult process producing film on a large scale. Lots of things will happen but I'm sure you are trying your very best to make it work. The best of luck and please drop a note from time to time about the experience.
