APUG UK Print Exchange Round 18

It's time to kick off the sign up for Round 18 of the UK Print Exchange. If you signed up for round 17 but have not yet received a print can you please inform me via PM. Anyone, who hasn't met their round 17 commitment will be excluded from this and future exchanges until they have sent their print.

    Exchange rules are as follows:

Please register interest in this thread and send the address you want the print sent to via PM to me (with a subject line like "UK round 17" or "UK Print Exchange Round 17" or something similar please). Interest should be registered by the end of SATURDAY 28th FEBRUARY after which I will place all names in a hat and pick them out at random. I have kept a record of previous rounds matches so I'll try to ensure that people send prints to different people this round.

You will then receive a PM with the address of the person that you should send your print to.

Your details will have been passed to another in the group who should send you a print.

You will not be expected to send a print to the person that sends you one - just to the name and address that you have been provided with.

    Rules.
    1. Your print must have originated from a film/ in-camera paper negative /alternate process (eg no digital process at any point please), but any intermediate traditional stages are acceptable .
    2. Your print should be on 10x8 paper (or larger if you wish, just don't expect others to send you anything bigger than 10 x 8 ).
    3. Paper type and finish is your choice, as is the subject.
    4. The image may be any size or format.
    5. Inkjet prints or computer manipulated images are ineligible.
    6. The addition of explanatory notes is optional, but your recipient may appreciate some background information, and if you do not say who it is from, they cannot thank you for it.
    7. Enjoy the experience.
    8. There is no expectation for critiques or comments to be made, although there is nothing to stop you asking for this if you wish.
    9. Failure to honor the agreement and not send a print will result in a strike, 3 strikes and your out. Past failings will be counted.

If you have a spare copy of your print then Simon Galley at Ilford / Harmon Technology would love to see it. I'm sure Simon will put it on the company notice board for everyone to see. Simon's address is:

    HARMAN technology Limited,
    Town Lane,
    Mobberley,
    Knutsford,
    CHESHIRE.
    WA16 7JL

Marked : For the attention of Simon.R.Galley

I received a lovely print off bwakel today, a fine print entitled 'Mist Rushing Over Watership Down'. A cracking print, on a fab paper with an enjoyable letter.

    Keep up the great work,

Received Jon's print today. It's an incredibly sharp print with wonderful tonality and shows what's possible without any trickery - no enlarger filters or toning. Illustrating a disused building in the Rue de Stassart in Brussels, the numerous and repeating posters provide the eye with plenty of intrigue.

I had a print from Jon last round, and its ultra sharpness was striking too.

    Question for Jon

Yes, Jon, is the sharpness combined with wonderful mid-tones, zero grain and great contrast down to your use of Prescysol EF? If it is then I'm ordering some now!

I received Black dog's print today  It is a very subtle print on the coolish side of the pond and printed on Seagull paper. It is probably the first time that I see a print on this paper... it does have a very sexy shine to it.
Thank you, I like it a lot and it made my day at the office

    Barry,
Thanks for comments and I'm pleased you like the print. Sorry for the late reply to your
question but did not get back from Greece until late on Friday.
Yes Presycysol EF IMO is the best commercially available developer I can buy, I use partial stand technique between 9.5 & 11.5
minuets depending the taking light contrast measured with a hand held meter. I also use PMK, Pyrocat HD & even Rodinal for some films with
excellent results but always keep some Presycysol EF handy.
It is not just the developer that gives the results I want, its the combination of lots of things, like using high quality taking and enlarging
lenses used at their optimum aperture, precise metering, but above all knowing your tools and film.
As you can see I have turned into a bit of a negative obsessive, my aim is to make negatives that print highlight & shadow detail
without using contrast filters when enlarging.

    Cheers JON.

Thanks for the info Jon. I bought some Prescysol EF to try and developed my first film in it at the weekend. Unfortunately the film had been used in misty, frosty conditions where contrast was minimal and the Delta 400 developed in Prescysol EF created extremely low contrast negatives when developed for 10.5 minutes. Should I have developed for longer or would this have made little difference with this developer? I've posted a lith print made of one of the frames to the gallery so you can take a look!

    Barry,
I'm not a fan of Delta, try HP5+ it's great with Prescysol EF.
