Here's to hoping that we still can keep this forum alive and well!

OK - Jerevan and PE captured the essense of what my original post was about. Not to knock your forum, Ian, but it seems to me that having two web sites covering the subject of emulsion making dilutes our efforts. With the vast amount of info already on this site, I was wondering why have a second forum?

You're certainly free to make your own website and cover any subject matter you wish, but this one is well established and also offers a better chance of introducing new people to the subject matter merely by the large number of people that frequent APUG.

(Personally, I have issues with APUG's heretical anti-digital stance, but it doesn't really seem to effect the emulsion making forum at all.)

PE - why go to a forum with a very small number of members to learn up-to-date info? I thought all the info here was up-to-date?

    PE,

As far as I understood it back then, in the first place, this forum was set up with the intention of sharing and in a sense archiving information for the future of emulsion making. With your specialist competence and patience with all sorts of questions, this has grown into a good source of information.

    Generally:

As far as the 101 forum, I can see a certain sense in making a special forum for people who has had the possibility to attend the emulsion making workshops, to discuss the minutiae. I can also understand if someone who absolutely needs to discuss digital cameras and megapixels wants to be among friends.

But it is still sad. Whatever is it in the "up-to-date emulsions" that is so digital and megapixel-y that it cannot be discussed here? The resources are thinly spread as it is, already.

Emulsion 101 was created by Ian as a forum for people who have taken workshops. I intend to post some detailed information there to answer questions from the workshops and I have dual posted here as have some of the students.

If you get down to it, there are 3 forums carrying this type of information. One sees to concentrate on old fashioned emulsions and two seem to concentrate on old emulsions updated to new methods or entirely new methods. I see no problem with that. This would probably also include Photo Net, but they have no suitable "niche" for emulsion making and coating.

    I see no problems.
