I sold my second and last beloved ETRSi in 2004... and i'd like it back.

I have been in contact this week (Jan 2012) with the person I sold it to back then, they still have it and it has not been used since 2007. I don't have much information yet but I believe it is still in excellent condition apart from "a small piece of leatherette on the rewind lever fell off and disappeared."

From memory the rewind leaver is on the film back, but I don't remember it being covered, anyway my question is regardless of where this "small piece of leatherette" is from can it be replace by DIY or a professional? and at what cost?

    Regards,
    Steve.

I think it's just a small piece which fits into a recess. I wouldn't pay anyone to replace it, I would cut it and glue it in myself (although I do have the use a laser cutter!).

PM me your address, I can mail you a scrap of leatherete I have floating in the shop. You can cut it yourself with a scissors, self stik so no glue needed.

Paul has kindly said he will send it from the USA to the UK for me.

Regarding the missing bit, I have now found out it is not on the film rewind it's on the film advance, so I just need to work out how to cut it and stamp the hole in it now.

    Here's a clue:

I could cut it for you or I could send you a punch from one of our cutting tools to punch out the hole.

I have an ETRS so I will have a look at mine. I have some spare covering here so I might give it a go at work tomorrow.

I have only just joined this forum and the help people provide is fantastic. Thanks everyone.

Hopefully I will secure the deal today to have the camera sent back to me.

Steve, Just press a piece of paper on the place you want to make the leatherete for and then use the impressions as your template when it all fits nicely.

Use a scalple or hobby knife to cut it. Holes can be made using a leather punch if you want em looking neat... I just use my scalple tip n work carefully. Besides... none of this will shows in your negatives. I consider this battle scars from experiance.

    Thanks Paul !
The material you sent has arrived today, I will have a look at sorting it in the next few days.

How did you get on with your laser cutting tests?

I have not done it yet (although I know I can cut it). I was going to peel off a piece of vinyl from mine to measure it but mine appears to be different. What looks like vinyl is actually a texture in the aluminium moulding.

If you want me to cut a piece for you, I will need some measurements:

    1. The overall diameter (measured as if it was one whole circular piece.
    2. The distance from the flat edge to the top of the curve.
    3. The distance from the flat edge to the centre of the hole.
    4. The diameter of the hole.

If you can measure these, I can cut you a couple of pieces. I have textured black vinyl with £m 467 adhesive laminated to the back. This is a very strong sheet adhesive - strong enough for car manufacturers to apply badges and trim with.

    Thank you for the offer.

Another idea, I will remove my other half circle, measure and scan 1:1 (Ill post on here just in case anyone else find it useful).
Maybe I can post you a piece that Paul very kindly sent from NY can you can laser that for me?

    Steve.

This image is 300dpi and should be 4.04cm tall when printed (the ruler scale should obviously match)

    ETRSi Semi Circle.jpg

Posted here for anyone else who finds it useful.

Just to add I think if it was a complete circle it would be 24mm Diameter, worked out in photo shop and checked on the camera winder.

All cut and ready to fit now.

I punched out a 25mm circle (closest punch to 24mm I had readily available)
Cut the 8mm deep arcs out
Punched the 3mm holes with a hand hole punch

Thought I would change both so that they match 100%

    Job Done!

I'm glad it all worked out. I was about to write a post apologising for not laser cutting some parts yet as we had a bit of a rush on at work over the last few days.

I pasted your image into AutoCAD and now have a suitable profile to cut so if for any reason your parts don't work out, let me know and I will cut some of the material I have here.
