Tobias Morris was one of the bests photographers I have had the pleasure of knowing.

COLUMBIA, SC - Fredric Tobias "Toby" Morriss died February 28, 2010, in Lexington Medical Center as a result of injuries sustained in a hit-and-run motorcycle accident on February 21. He was 36 years old.

Raised in Ponca City, Okla., Toby completed his bachelor's degree in philosophy at the University of Oklahoma in 1998 and a Master of Fine Arts in photography at Tulane University in 2005. A refugee of Hurricane Katrina, Toby relocated to Columbia, where he became an adjunct professor of photography at the University of South Carolina and a machinist-mechanic for vintage motorcycles at Machinery and Design Company in Lexington. Renowned for his professional skills as an artist, inventor, and mechanic, Toby was both a master teacher and a lifelong learner, his life encompassing such varied talents that he preferred to be known as a bricoleur. Above all, he was also a dedicated and patient listener, a wise and seasoned soul, and a dear and beloved friend to so many whose paths he crossed. Toby loved well and was well loved.

Toby is survived by his parents, Mike and Andrea Morriss of Ponca City, Okla.; his brother, Mike "Andy" Morriss, and his sister-in-law, Mindy Morriss; four nephews and a niece, all of Goltry, Okla.; Jenny Prather and Eric Plaag of Columbia, S.C.; and grandmothers, Mavis Ruth and Marcine Witt, and three aunts, one uncle and cousins, also located in Oklahoma.
