Odd you'd have a coincidence with my recent experience with a 1966 Kodachrome slide I dug up back in December, just in time for my Dad's 81 birthday. A picture of me and my little sister standing in our mother's fence garden, still in our clothes we wore to Sunday School in springtime. The color and density were still PERFECT. And that slide had suffered quite a bit of improper storage climate.
I took the slide to Steve Biggs at Biggs Camera in Charlotte. They scanned it to 30 megabytes, made me an 11x14 silver-based print, and I gave it to my Dad for his birthday. I would share, but how do you upload 30 megs to this site? Unless I bring it into Photoshop and cut file size (which I CAN do).

Gee, I wish I had spelled Kodachrome correctly....
