the seller sounds like a real self-important jerk who thinks he's witty... glad I can't afford to buy it, at least I have no dilema:wink:

I really don't understand people who buy these lovely things to just sit in display cases. I'm not one to do that with mine...if I don't use it I try and get rid of it. This is a nice example of the lens...but yes, the seller sounds a bit...annoying.

I doubt this lens is old enough to have the problem but not using a lens--just displaying it on a camera for years--is one of the worst things you can do to it. I have a few old Nikkor lenses I used professionally that I left boxed up for 4-5 years after I quit using them. They are unusable because the lube has dried out and the focus rings are nearly frozen solid. Before I stored them, I had them overhauled by Nikon Professional Services but that didn't help when they didn't get exercised regularly.

I agree that equipment should be used. I've enjoyed depreciating the value of every piece of photo gear I've ever bought.

I really hope that this goes to a user and not a collector, but the odds of that are rather slim. Bah.

Oh, and this is for the people who were showing me Leica porn in my introduction thread. Eat *this*.
