Not only has she put up with my photo obsession, she's actually started taking a serious interest in it, and she bought a Canon Rebel XS with the kit lens which since we've slightly upgraded to the 28-80 out of an EF film body kit.

Anyways...she knows I'm obsessed with Canon stuff, especially AE-1s and AE-1Ps. When we went on a roadtrip to the Rockies I saw a girl with a black AE-1 and tried to buy it off her haha...she knew NOTHING about film cameras, so I figured I'd trade her for my AE-1P or something...anyways...she thought I was crazy and walked away.

So...I finally found a rather beat up but working black AE-1P...and told my g/f that I'd buy it...she told me not to do it...so I instantly knew that she got me one for my bday (coming up in a month)...

Anyways...haven't seen it yet, and she said she's still "accessorizing" it...no idea what that means, but I have a feeling it'll be good  and my bday is not till the middle of Sept...but I'm stoked...she actually tracked down an all-black AE-1P and got it for me...has to be the best bday present ever!!!

Sorry, it's a bit of a ramble, but I think you guys are the only ones around who'd understand my excitement!

No such thing as a free lunch. You will have to marry her now!

And now the photo budget has to be spread between two. Not all that good.

Ralph, once again you are absolutly correct. Of course, there is something to be said for wives like that(I've been married to a woman like that for 15 years now). I enjoy telling people "I've got the best wife in the world" -- has a nice ring to it. Dont let her get away, marry the beauty.

Relish in the fleeting moment and hope beyond hope that it lasts forever.

So far, mine is. And I hope beyond hope.

haha Ralph, worse things can befall a man than marrying a woman who feeds his obsessions

    Ral/CW: very cool

Bob: Thankfully her dream now is to get a 50 1.8 II and stop spending money on it for a while, so it's not so bad  I just ordered her a remote for her XS too...waitaminute...I see your point

Jeff: Absolutely! It's nice to have someone interested and I'm slowly teaching her...she's really enjoying it

btw...here she is....appropriately enough (for this forum) shot with a 1962 Ansco Anscoset rangefinder:

That's nothing. As wedding gifts my wife got me a Nikon FE and 55/3.5 Micro and I got her a Yashica Mat 124G. We've got a decent selection of lenses we share and we agreed on the house we currently rent because there was space to set up a darkroom. Its far easier to justify buying new (old?) stuff when you can pass it off as a gift.

Let's take a different spin on this thread.

How do you deal with a photographing partner?
Is it a problem if he or she is more successful?
Did this ever happen to you?

These days, successful people need to have vision. If you had visions a few decades ago, they locked you up for good!

My wife has a great appreciation of good photography and knows a great deal about it but she Isn't interested in taking pictures herself, but if she did and was more successful than I, I would be very proud of her.

haha thanks for all the comments...can't wait to see it...I talked to her today for a bit (she's at work, we're currently living in different cities)...and apparently it's minty-mint with no Canon squeak...she really sounded like she knew what she was talking about and did a ton of research...brought a tear to my eye

As for her taking pics...I'm really hoping that she'll take amazing pictures...and if they turn out better than mine...well then that'd be all sorts of awesome

And here I am with no girlfriend—let alone one who appreciates my interest in photography. Maybe we need to redistribute the wealth to us poor unfortunates? Only kidding. Congratulations on having such a terrific girlfriend. Get her to watch a print materializing in the developer and she'll be hooked for life.

Whenever I want photographic equipment or build up my off-roading Jeep Grand Cherokee, she says,"You worked all your life earning money to by others what they needed and what they wanted. Now it is your time. If you will enjoy it and it will make you happy, then buy it."

We have been together nine years, but I do not know if it will last because we have never had a fight. Hence we still do not know if we are compatiable.

Sounds like you have a very nice girlfriend! My wife puts up with my obsession about photography as long as I put up with her obsession about pets.
