Not if I can help it. I'll pay $200 for that $75 box of chemicals, and turn around and sell it for $85 netting me a sweet $10.

    that chemistry is old....

The NEW kit 30.2, would cost you probably close to $95 per kit of 2L.

not to burst any bubbles, our week $ (weak US dollar) and the shrinking Ilfochrome market is starting to hurt.

The 1-litre P30 kit currently sells in the UK for £45.99, so for two litres that works out as US$ 187 at current exchange rates...

I know PE says that Ilfochrome depends on chemicals so rare they can only be obtained by vestal virgins milking unicorns, but I still maintain that 'old' Ilford are now just price gouging so they can throw their hands up and say "there was no demand" when they finally kill it off.

Umm, that's three 1 litre bottles. I.e. 1 litre of developer, 1 litre of bleach, and 1 litre of fix.

As far as I'm aware, that's a "1 litre kit", although I could be wrong...

Mind you, Nova seem to be selling a 2-litre kit (i.e. 3x2l) for the same price Silverprint are selling 1-litre... (Old) Ilford's own website is as unhelpful as ever, but as far as I can divine the only small-kit they still manufacture is indeed P30.2, which would suggest that Nova are at least selling the current chemistry.

I wonder if Silverprint need to update their website, or if they really are selling them at double-the-price. I've bought P30 chemistry from Silverprint before, but I can't remember how big the bottles were...

    Hi Jerold,
    Be careful man.
I tried two of those outdated kits and could'nt use a single print. The saturation was weak, and the contrast was unpredictable. I tossed the second one.
I hate to say it, but it's like, you've got to pay to play.

Hi Dave - I hope the P-30 kit I sold you a couple years ago wasn't a bad one. It was still fresh after I did the p3.5 conversion. I read with interest your recent developer and bleach dilution experimentation/recommendations. I will be doing an "ilfochrome" run in the next couple weeks: do you have any more words of wisdom beyond that last thread? Do you think greater dilutions will affect print longevity?

    Thanks!

    Hi Doug,
I don't remember the sale details, but it's water under the bridge anyway. I don't really know the affect of diluting the dev and bleach on color stability, maybe PE or someone else will know. Seems to me after it's been fixed properly it should be ok. But I could be wrong.
    Long live Ciba!

Dilution or concentration of the developer or bleach will only affect the image dyes in terms of color and saturation, they will not affect stability.

Dilution of the fix, and then underfixing will affect the dmin and hues as the image discolors due to retained silver salts. A simple blix should help this if it takes place.

Under washing will affect image stability.

Storing Ciba/Ilford prints with chromogenic prints can affect the dye hue and stability of chromogenic prints due to the slightly acid nature of the Ilford materials. Chromogenic dyes prefer to be near neutral or they can discolor.

There, more than you ever wanted to know.

FYI: on 12-Feb I paid $85 for the P30.2 kit. I was told that as of 1-March the price was going up.

Do not see Ilfochrome going anywhere any time soon. Too many imagesetters out there using it.
