    Good news !

On monday July 6th 2008 we succesfully coated MCP 310 and 312.
The paper is now drying down and hardening. After confectioning we will be able to ship in late August.

We also plan the next coating to take place in Oktober with Shipping in November/December.

We are now officially accepting orders for the paper.

    Best regards,

    Mirko

Great news Mirko! Thanks for the update. Do you have an ETA on when MCC111 will be ready for coating?

MCP 111 is the glossy surface, right? What are the 310 and 312 surfaces?

    Gary,

MCP 310 and 312 is resin coated. The 3 in the nomenclature signifies that.
MCC 111 is the glossy, but that's fiber based. I think that MCC is coming later in the season if I'm not mistaken.

I am sure I will try some but how about some descriptive names like "Multicontrast Glossy?" On the other hand, "ADOX MCP 310" does have an anachronistic charm to it.

Wonderful news, Mirko! Just received my tests sheets today - can't wait to get into the darkroom tomorrow to test it out. Looking forward to being able to purchase it soon.

Just so there is no confusion: MCP 310 and 312 are RC papers glossy and matt coated on someone elses machine with our emulsion.

The machine we will make the MCC on is still beeing assembled and thus we can present the RC paper now but not the fibre version.

Yes, these papers will be just like the ones made by Agfa Germany before. Just the base has changed a bit in the meantime and there will be no backprint.

You can order directly with us (info@fotoimpex.de) or contact freestyle for north america.

    Best regards,

    Mirko

When MCP is eventually coated onto the new machine, will there be a noticeable difference to the current paper?

Well it depends on what one calls noticeable.
There are noticeable differences between any batch of photopaper but you might need very precise instruments to measure this.

As far as MCP is concerned there is no necessary difference. We can adjust any parameter on the old machine which we can adjust on the contract coaters machine. The engineers in charge know how to shape the curve and which other knobs to turn. So I don´t expect anyone to see any difference.

    Best regards,

    Mirko

    MCP now shipping in Europe

we started shipping the new MCP 310 and 312 just before Photokina.

We hope to get into a stable production cycle within the first quarter of 2009.

Right after that we will also start making the fibre version.

    Kind regards,

    Mirko

    Gary,

yes we have sample packs in a metric format: 24x30 cm.
We sold over 500 at Photokina and have a good stock in Berlin.

Freestyle has the small 8x10"/25 packs, so there´s no need for additional sample packs.

If anyone from the US would like to try the metric paper samples before freestyle gets their shippment in we would ask for postage only.

    Kind regards,

    Mirko

MCP first industrial sized coating sucessfull

We coated the first batch of MCP in January 2009 made in the actual large production kettles which are newly installed at InovisCoat´s. The coating went well and we hope to be able to ship paper within 4-5 Weeks from today.
The quality is right on the spot with the last batch made by Agfa in Leverkusen. We hope to reach stable supply of MCP within a few weeks as we are ready to recoat now anytime.

    Kind regards,

    Mirko

That's good news! I will certainly try this paper once it becomes available. I used to use mostly MCC, but RC papers are more convenient to handle in my bathroom/darkroom.

    MCC/MCP

    Ian,

MCP and MCC are identical except for the base.
Sofar we have not been offered contract coating capacity for fibre based products so the MCC unfortunately has to wait for the reassembly of the mooved Agfa coating machine. As this project is beyond the scope of the monochrome market we have to sit and wait patiently. Once it becomes available it will be used for it´s other purposes (whos investors also payed for it!) as well as for us to make black and white products.
It is an ideal setup. Speeding up the reassembly cannot be done as there are already over 20 people busy with it.
After having had to postpone dates given to me by engineers for three times I now have become stubborn, I won´t give any more dates ;-)
Rather I will shout it out loud when the day has come.

Until then all of you keep asking if you have any questions.

    Kind regards,

    Mirko

Mirko, compared to the grim days not so many months ago when Agfa pulled out of film & paper/photography, Ilford went into administration, followed by Kodak's sudden cessation of B&W paper manufacture and then Fort's closure, anything you bring back is welcomed by us all.

I'm at least a year away from exhausting my current stocks of Forte Polywarmtone & Agfa MCC and still have 100 or so sheets of Record rapid.

Hopefully you'll have MCC back before I run out :D

Mirko, I love ADOX's new Variotone
paper. It seemed to me to have a
look very much like Agfa MCC 111.
Are they related in some way?

Mirko, the emulsion may have come out of the kettle identically, but the finished products were different sensitometrically, with MCC consistently having a longer toe than MCP throughout their respective lives as Agfa products. This is consistent with the characteristic curves provided by Agfa in the product data sheets.

I'm not complaining - both were among my favorite papers, and I'm delighted to see your progress in bringing them back. Many thanks for your work on this, and best wishes for continued success...
