I buy three-four photo magazines a month from the newstand. I consindered subscribing for the CameraArts until I saw there was a big presence of digital and since that is a medium I am not interested in I got scared. Most photographic magazines have turned into gadget catalogs and computer tutorials. Since I cannot get a copy to try out, can you help explain to me the philosophy and the line of CameraArts regarding chemical photography? Even the "general photo" ones have either turned digital completely or are quickly moving that way.
Should I invest my money consindering I will skip all digital material?

The sub title of CameraArts is The Art and Craft of Photogaphy in the 21st Century. We cover all aspects of making photographic images - traditional to digital.

Let me get this straight. Brian make a smart*** and empty remark and then provides a link to his web site where he advertises his commercial activities and does not provide any info related to the topic.

The free info we are providing might be of interest to people. Sorry Brian.

I too have stopped buying all the mags that now feature an abundance of digital "tips".

The only two that I get off of the newsstand now are B+W (usa) and B+W (UK).

We don't do quick tips. We feature portfolios with how-to info, reviews of new equipment (film and digital), how-to articles (traditional and digital), etc.

We are a magazine about making photographic images.

    Try us!

Not taking sides but when I see the title "Nikon F6" and a link in the body of the post, I expect to click the link and see something about the F6.

If someone (such as Brian) has a link to their own site as a signature or someone else because of good service from a company they provided a free plug with comments on the service that's another matter.

I now my eyesight is failing but where is the write-up on the F6?

Well I do subscribe to Camera Arts, and didn't mind the post -- though I wish the review of the F6 was up BEFORE the post! I still can't find it.

Dear Brian and Steve, I note you both have links to your commercial websites and [correct me if I'm wrong] neither of you have links back to APUG.org. Perhaps Sean could give you a logo to rectify this.

When was the last time Brian posted a notice that he has put something new on his site or advertised it in anyway besides his signature? If you are going to complain about a signature have a website there are a whole bunch of them here.

Steve. How about posting direct links so we do not have to wade through your sites. It would cause you a lot less stress.

Brian has a link as his signature, I have never seen him advertise here. OTOH he has been a valuable member of this forum and has gone beyond the call of duty to help Sean in many APUG ventures (even if he is grumpy at times ). I cannot say the same for Simmons. Rarely do we see a helpful answer from Simmons unless it involves shilling his rags.

We have just seen Sean do miracles to keep this forum going and I think it is very unbecoming to use it for free advertising without providing any support. This forum has a section for articles, if Simmons wants to post an article, even if it is about a miniature camera, I will be the first one to say thank you, but as it is, this is just one more abuse of these forum of which he is well known in this and other forums.

I post all the time without making any mention of my magazines. Jorge is a known troll and loves to incite a fight. He has said so publcally and privately.

If you go to the Free Articles section of our sites (both View Camera and Camerarts) you wil see many articles. If I post a link to only one people may miss the others.

There are some people who do not want others to know of another site that has free info.

Sorry, but www.viewcamera and www.cameraarts.com have free info for anyone.

Jorge will almost certainly come on and make another trolling remark. Lets see what he says.

Nope sorry, of all the 141 posts you have made here, all have to do with your rags or conference, only a few are in response to a question without you mentioning your rags. It is here for everbody to see and check.
Once again you use this post to mention your rags and the supposedly free stuff, which BTW is so old and outdated it is not even relevant anymore but to the most beguinner.

My "troll" was in response to your attack to Brian, who is a valuable member of this forum, unlike you. BTW, many preffer my "trolls" to your advertising and taking adavantage of this site.

How can a review of a brand new camera be so old as to be useless? How can a report from Photokina, which is going on at this moment, be so old as to be useless? This will also be posted in the next few hours

There are new people coming to large format all of the time and the articles on the VC site are timeless. Tray processing is tray processing, etc., etc.

My point about Brian's post was that it dd not include any info about the posted topic.

Jorge will continue to make inaccurate posts to try and discredit me. I will stand on my record as publisher of View Camera for 16 years and CameraArts for the last 6-7.

If Jorge thinks he can match this record let him show something comparable.

Is the review free? or is it only for subscribers? if free, why not provide a direct link instead of using only your main web site and force people to have to see all the site and the subscription offererings? If you call inaccurate agreeing with Brian that your post is SPAM, then, yep it is inaccurate.

As to discrediting you, I dont need to do that, you do that to yourself all on your own.

Actually, I believe it did. In my view, your original post was spam. If you don't understand what spam is, look it up on www.dictionary.com (hint, I'm not talking about the meat)

It is in the Free Section as I have previously said. You are so anxious to start a fight you don't take the time to read whatI have said. I have also repeatedly explained that I do not give a direct linkto just one article as this would not allow people to see the other articles in the same section. I have answered this many times.

My post was only spam to people who are trying to control the availability of free info for others. Others might be interested in reading abut the F6 and the additional report from Photokina. There are also other articles in that section that might be of interest to people. Why not let folks see for themselves and make their own decision?

This site encourages the sharing of info within the community, but the sharing of info and spam are two different things. How can one tell the difference? Usually by getting to know the member and how they participate within the site determines if it is spam or not. For example Brian may have a link in his signature but he has never tried to promote his site. Brian often posts links to his ebay auctions in the for sale forum, and he then donates a percentage to apug if the items sell (which he doesn't have to do). And Brian is very active in the apug forum community in a positive way, also contributing his time to help me out if I need an extra hand. It's safe to say if a member like Brian posts a link for any reason it's not spam..

Yep, it would not allow the other people to see the other free articles, nor would it allow them to see the the offers for subscription. If your intention is to be truly informative, why not post the artcle here? without having to go thorugh all your rag web site to find the article.

Once again, if you think you are being clever with your response, sorry, but many people see through this as just another advertisement disguised as a "free article."

My comment about Brian submitting spam was in reference to his photo of the can of spam in response to my posting a free review of the new F6. His post was off topic, IMHO, and did not make a positive contribution.

As for supporting this forum how many other mainstream US photo magazines have given support in the form of editorial mentions - June 03 and April 04 in CameraArts in the Publsher's Statement section.

I am in favor of sharing resources and info souces. I have done so in my magazine and when someone participates in either the View Camera or the CameraArts forum and mentions another source o info I do not complain or accuse them of anything. If there are sources of info lets be open about sharing them.

Well, Black and White magazine just did a full interviwe of Sean and the site, including photographs from the members, and they did not have to do it as an exchange because they failed to pay their sponsorship. Ailsa, the editor of B&W Magazine in the UK, has done so, in addition she has published many members from this forum and paid them for their contribuition. Of course, she is a delight to deal with and has never, not once used this forum to advertise her magazine, as a matter of fact, I would say we all do it for her, since it is such a great magazine.
Steve Anchell did the same, and he did so, once again, for support....so dont even go there, as far as I am concerned, you have milked your two little mentions in your rag enough.

You are my best PR agent Jorge because everytime you post incorrect info it gives me the opportuniy to correct you.

I said maintream US magazines. The one is English, the other is defunct and used this forum to promote his magazine frequently, and B&W is a special case and no one know would consider it a mainstream US magazine. I think he has a terriic idea and does a great job but he is not in the standard loop, he dos not talk about or show how images are made, he does not do any product reviews, he is basically unknown to the major product companies, he does not do book reviews or reviews of workshops (perhaps rarely a best). We regularly do step by step phots of how images are made (traditional and digital) we review new an used equipment, do articles for photo and equipment collectors, showed how to build a darkroom and a darkroom sink, we test film and papers, etc, etc.

Do you know of another mainstream US magazine publically offereing a review for the new F6? I so tell us and share the info.

Yes, Jorge, your policing, if you really had any control, would limit people's access to info. To who's advantage would his be.?
