I wanted to renew my subscription. Pay ing with VISA is impossible because the security certificate has expired.

    What is a security certificate?

Yesterday on the TV news I caught the tail end of a piece that said it has been figured out how to derrive the cards security number... and this morning, on yahoo I saw essentially the same story but for social security card numbers... Whats going on?

A security certificate is a chunk of data used in secure connections -- pretty much when the URL starts with https rather than http.

There's a bunch of tech stuff that I'll get wrong and a bunch of encryption stuff that I have no clue about, but the certificate is central to confirming that you are connected to who you intend.

I renewed my subscription by PayPal - receipt # 1508 -9666-6589-2961, yet I am listed as a non subscriber. What gives?
