    Enormous thank you for this. In itself a link to a lot of interesting material, but also took me to the "internet archive" where there is more stuff than can ever be read!

    Did find this gem https://archive.org/details/completeselfinst01schriala "Complete self instructing library of practical photography" 1909 - there's only 10 volumes, not much to read there then! :confused:

    I have a combined volume of "The Decisive Battles" and "The Cavalry", and yes, the pictures are wonderful. They were written only 45 years after the war so the original photographs were still in really great shape.
