    The Tonopah Tribute!

A four day workshop with Per Volquartz and Jim Galli
in Tonopah, Nevada.

Tonopah, an old decaying silver mining town will serve as the center
for this workshop that will focus on use of lenses, old glass,
weird time-tested contraptions - and how to build basic image content
- as well as photographing in spectacular locations in this unique
and desolate part of the Western United States.

    "As Jim Galli says:
"- this is the workshop to come to if you want to look through
all this ancient glass that people are talking about all the time.
A little hands on before you commit to spending stupid money
on old brass lenses. *
I really think that might be something people are interested in."

Monday November 9 through Thursday November 12
    15 people maximum.

A wee bit about Tonopah. It is 240miles S of Reno, 210 miles N of Vegas, 120 miles E. of Bishop, Ca. so that pretty well puts it in the middle of nowhere. For those who might consider flying from afar, you'll have to drive either north or south from Reno or Las Vegas. Consider that there is interesting and beautiful scenic ops along both paths. Mountain passes are normally open in early November. Folks in central Ca. can come via Yosemite and Mono Lake / Eastern Sierra. It's about 370 miles to Pasadena, much of it beautiful and unique.

Already getting questions about lodging / camping. November at 6,000 feet ele. can swing either way. Typically we get a lovely indian summer all the way to Thanksgiving, but every rule is made to be broken.

Rooms: Nice rooms (with photos made by Jim Galli hanging in them) at the Hi Desert Inn 775-482-3511 Economy rooms at a nice clean older place across the street and up the hill Silver Queen Motel 775 482 6291

Camping: There are a few sites for motorhomes etc. behind the Station House Hotel / Casino 775 482 9777 Beyond those, there really isn't much. Self contained campers can wander out of town in any direction for a mile or so and be left alone.

Mornings will be cool. If you're from So. Cal. mornings will be butt cold. :D

This sounds interesting but what are "weird time-tested contraptions"? Is standard old equipment, Artars, Ektars and TR's and Ilex and Betax shutters OK. I only have Kodak, Seneca and Calumet large format.

Any camera you use if fine!

Weird things are what you'd find in Jim's collection.

Not sure what he has but it will be interesting to see again...
Ask him - although he may not even know for sure...?
