My condolences to any affected. NZ is really having a bad run lately. I lived for a couple of years in Carterton and was sometimes the chase vehicle driver for the potter Jim Greig who pretty much pioneered hot air ballooning in that part of NZ. I remember him taking the civil aviation regulator guy aloft when the rules for hot air flight were being established. The basket landed in an ungainly manner and the official was delighted as he bounced onto the ground. It appeared to remind him of his early barnstorming days. Jim passed away some years ago; he would have been very sad today too.
