No snow on the ground yet in eastern Canada but I expect it will arrive at any moment.Hell,it's probably snowing now.I use a pair of knee high felt pack for busting through snow drifts, shoveling, and walking in the bush. But I need some good walking boots with a super gripping sole for running around town when the streets and sidewalks are ice covered.
All suggestions welcome and greatly appreciated.

Note:I should add that my budget is limited.

I have some Merrell boots, that are very comfortable, waterproof, light, and warm.

I bought mine at Sportcheck, but you could probably get them in most outdoor stores.

    Good morning Mike,
when it comes to snow and ice, I wear SCARPA brand boots and the model is EIGER. The most sure footed, comfortable winter boot I've ever owned.

    my boot buy this year..

Rubber boots, fitted with a removable felt liner like snowmobile boots. They have a tie off collar at the top to keep snow, etc from dropping into the top of the boot. With a pair of woolen socks, they fit my foot just fine for a day of walking around taking pictures of swamps, ponds, and shallow watercourses.

First time that I had seen them. Found at Marks Work Warehouse, for about $40.

I wore these on the Brits and Yanks workshop about a month ago, and were they ever useful; my trusty old hiking boots (wedding gift from my wife 12 years ago along with a $70 gold band in lieu of an expensive ring that I would never wear anyway) only saw service on the first day, then it was rubber boots for almost every other outing.

Oh yeah! I had a pair of North Face boots that lasted a long time before the soles wore out. I still use them for around the house stuff.

I would go down to your local army navy store and get the mid calf lace up boots that DOC (dept of Corrections) officers get. That's what I did in 2000. They were comfortable, easily weatherproofed and retired only last year after extensive use. In 200 I was able to get a pair of these boots for $60.00 USD.

Inflation's driven the price up significantly since 200.
