In my case, pure laziness, but I'm getting better at it. Usually the key is using 1/2 to a full grade more contrast than you think you need. It also doesn't hurt for me to do the postcards at the end of a run of more serious prints, so I have a tray of amidol (Michael Smith's formula) handy. The amidol doesn't do enough with MGIV RC to justify mixing it up just for the postcards, but it does boost the blacks a tiny bit, if I happen to have some left over from something else.
