film is probably more subtle in tonality
but only if the whole process from subject selection to image presentation is done well
digital is probably inferior, but if also done well the differences are minute and most would not notice or care
there are far more steps in the film work flow, so far more opportunities for mistakes
these arguments of course pre-suppose that print quality is more important than image content, a mistake that is constantly practiced on this site
