I haven't done still life shots in about 20 years. I liked them back then but moved to landscape to get me outside. Now I seem to have come full circle but I have forgotten a lot. I am looking for any recommendations for still life photographers I might study.

Edward Weston. He shot some nice nudes, too, for when you get tired of peppers.

Thinking about this more, I am most interested in photographers who pair opposites.

Charis was hot.

Glad we agree on that, then :)

Good luck with your still life photography.

I enjoy Irving Penn's still lifes, one can learn a lot from him.

hi mark

the amphoto pro foto series
has a few still life books
"conceptual"
and not ...
while they are geared towards color and advertising still life
it is kind of the same sort of thing ...

they might ... be helpful
( and i think someone who used to be here on apug helped write/edit them )

(roger hicks ) ...

Might look at vintageworks.net . A lot of stuff in different catagories. It is all interesting.

Do you know which book it was? I looked at their site and saw nothing about still life photography.

Mark, you might consider registering in the large format photography forum. Here's the url (it's free):

http://www.largeformatphotography.info/forum/

To bring up all the Still Life posts, use the Advanced Search button at the top right, then ONLY enter "still lifes" in the keyword box and click in the adjacent box to select "Search Titles Only." It will lead you to the still life pics posted in the forum probably since these threads were started around 2008, I think. Pay special attention to the work posted by cjbroadbent (Italy); he's really a pro with both b&w and color. Occasionally, he discusses his lighting and other aspects of his setups.

In theory I am a member of the forum. I just cannot log in and no amount of contacting the leadership got a response. So I said the heck with them a few years ago.

I might try again.
