PS...I'm getting ready to erase these reels. The one I was playing yesterday was ok, but I just heard Captain & Tennille singing "Muskrat Love" and I almost lost my lunch. Sorry if that is your favorite. Now Gino Vannelli is starting to sing "I Just Wanna Stop." So I'm going to grant his wish.

I change my mind - 8 tracks were good for some things!

You are clearly very young :).

8 track sound was awfull!!!! Especially compared to good quality cassettes.

Think Disc film vs 35mm

Ahhh! And yes I'm 30...

Well, I had hoped this could sit here un-noticed, but that isn't the case. So. I need to sell it and sombody needs to enjoy it. That's just the way this story goes and as much as it pains me to do this, I'm giving somebody in the DFW area the chance to pick this up for $60. Sixty. Sesenta. Soixante. Sechzig. I could keep going, but this isn't a language lesson so much as a sacrifice. $60
Please send me an email or pm if you're interested. I'll probably be out of pocket most of tomorrow, but back Saturday.

Haha hey now 8 track sound was way better than cassette's as I've read just like beta max was better than VHS, does anyone know why 8 track lost? I know betamax lost because of the porn industry, but why 8 track?

I don't think it had better sound than cassette after a while, as the endless tape rubbed over itself as it ran. I had a good deck though, and the sound was good enough for the car. It did change tracks 4 times during its run (4X2 stereo tracks) which took getting used to. But cassettes had to flipped over, so I guess that's a wash. Two things I hated about cassettes though-- one was when they would start squeaking as they ran, usually as a result of being left in a hot car, and the other was the frequency with which they would get eaten by the tape deck.

You won't have that problem with this baby. You can listen all day/all night to songs like this one:

Digital sound has made an old joke of mine obsolete: If someone who loves books is a bookworm, what is someone who loves tapes?

BTW, you just have to stop posting these videos by Elaine Elias! I just get over her, then I fall in love again!

Ok, ok...no more Eliane Elias. I know how addictive she is. Here's somebody you may know...or you may not know

One of the best versions of that song I've ever heard...

Yep! I've herd this version ;) It is both unusual and fun to listen to. Appropriate, too- Yippie-yi-oh-Akai-ay. :D

My favorite version is still Maryann Price's though...

Yes! Akai-ay. Glad you've herd it, too. Certainly you haven't missed this lady in France:

Oh yes- I think ZAZ is short for joie de vivre!

I have the all tube version of this Akai. Fantastic machine.

It is a fantastic machine. Is the all tube version heavier? Hard to imagine that.

Zaz certainly has joie de vivre! Have you also been watching what Roberto Alagna is doing these days?

21.5 kg - from the factory manual. This is NOT including the additional 12" stereo speaker pair I have that came with the machine.
My personal machine's reversing clutch is warn and I'm thinking about pulling the amps out and modifying them for microphone pre-amps.

We'll see.

That would be about 47~48 pounds. I just checked and mine weighs almost exactly 47 pounds. Interesting. Have you thought about repairing the clutch? Sad to see one scrapped.
