Hello all,

I an emergency fashion I decided it's time to move us to a fully dedicated server. I have learned that with sites like this you can come across BIG problems, and when you have problems you need full control to resolve them. With our own server we will not simply just live on a pre-configured webserver, we'll be able to configure our own server in the best possible way for our specific needs. I don't know yet if the new server will resolve the issues we had on the old server. We will have to wait and see..

If we still have problems i'll have to shut the site down again, and take it from there..

I am glad there will be more control. Any more blackouts and I might actually get some work done. :D

I hope going to the new server will not over tax Sean. He does have a life, family and a real job too. Good work tho Sean, and thanks for keeping out little asylum running.

It shouldn't be too bad Eric. I am with the same host and the server is fully managed, meaning they maintain it, upgrade the core software, repair any hardware faults, etc. There is more cost involved, but with our sponsors and the recent increase in subscribers we're covered pretty good..

I look after our website at work and it's been a lot easier since I moved ours to a dedicated server. For example, if you need to upgrade php then you can do it straight away without waiting for the hosting company to do it. But I certainly didn't move ours in a day! Well done, that was fast.

The host continually goes out of their way to help me. I made the call to go dedicated at 4:30 am their time, and they came back saying they've got a box free now if I want it, then they made the switch. Chatted to me the whole time via instant messenger to let me know how things were going. Great guys..

I'd like to make an additional donation to APUG, independant of my annual subscription to help defray the expense and labor of the recent problems.

I thought that there was something already set up for doing this but I can only find the subscribe page now. If more convenient, I can just use the subscribe page.
I'll still re-up in May :)

Thank you thank you thank you!

Got this when uploading:

Error creating thumbnail! Error code: 127

Command:

"/usr/bin/mogrify" -size 74x100 -quality 80 -geometry 74x100 '/home/apug002/public_html/gallery/data/2/3559perryfacesm-thumb.jpg'

Maybe it is just me...

Thanks,

Will

Wow. Cool. I'm getting a hand massage from the throaty rumble of all that extra horse power behind the mouse. ;)

Seriously, being on a dedicated server should make your life easier, Sean, as well as providing greater reliability for the forum. No wories about system loads created by the other system users.
