I mixed up some gold thiocyanate a few months back, Part A stock and Part B stock stored separately in brown glass bottles. Part A is 10ml of AuCl (1%) + 490ml distilled water. Part B is 10g of Sodium Thiocyanate + 500ml of distilled water.

I am using this to tone some albumen prints. In my literature it says that when i mix my working solution it should be Part A (50ml) + Part B (50ml) + 900ml distilled water and that the solution should turn bright red and then go clear.

I only used this toner once before a few months back and i remember it turning red momentarily before but when i mixed some today it did'nt. I looked at my Part B sodium thiocyanate solution and noticed there's some kind of nearly clear gelatinous substance in there. Some floating near the top and a blob down the bottom. Does Sodium thiocyanate go bad? what is that blob? Is there life in there?

I have never seen Thio go bad. Stupid question perhaps, were the bottles new?

Can't think of anything, I would wonder where you got the Thio from. If you need more, I have some. Let me know if I can help.
