View Full Version : Your "handle" meaning/choice? blaze-on 06-12-2005, 04:03 PM Ok, so I just took a break from clearing the area where my 8x14 darkroom will be constructed...hot, tired and hence this...
Most here on apug have a "handle" they go by where some use there "real" names. I was wondering if they mean anything in particular.
Mine is "blaze-on" 'cause way (way) back in college of fine arts, a woman friend and fellow artist labeled me that as I tended to paint and draw somewhat impressionistic pieces then, also was a reference to Cezanne and part of my name.
I started using it for my EBAY name, cause no one wants to use the real deal there. No one else calls me that, but for some reason, it's still here...as am I.
Cheers, Matthew "blaze-on" Blais Dave Parker 06-12-2005, 04:04 PM I think mine is pretty easy to figure out, as our company name is 'Satin Snow Ground Glass' the 'handle' of Satinsnow seemed to fit right in.

;) -- MW clogz 06-12-2005, 04:26 PM I was looking for a somewhat pedestrian handle. jd callow 06-12-2005, 04:35 PM I wanted to raise my stature. jnanian 06-12-2005, 04:45 PM first initial, last name ... eagleowl 06-12-2005, 04:54 PM ...is the first part of my e~mail address, and the second largest bird of prey in the world(only the golden eagle is larger).

MIchael kaiyen 06-12-2005, 05:02 PM kaiyen is my chinese name.
when I went to college, I was allowed to pick whatever username I wanted (many other schools use firstname.lastname or some other restriction). I didn't want to be achen or allanc or anything like that. so, for the first time in my life, I went with my chinese name (my family doesn't even use it).
I go by kaiyen all over the net...
allan arigram 06-12-2005, 05:08 PM arigram is clearly the first letters of my first and last names, but what you don't know is that it was given as a username by the admin of my first internet account 15 years ago. Back then in Greece, you had to be a student of the computer department in the university of Crete to have internet access and thankfully my uncle was the dean...I had to learn unix ofcourse... livemoa 06-12-2005, 05:14 PM livemoa is a play on words and a comment on extinction.
The Moa was a large flightless bird in New Zealand, there were, it is believed, 9 species. It stays alive in "memory" and in the archeological record. The first settlers in this land used them as a food source.
I likie the reference to the fact that even though physicaly extinct they do live on. I guess I'm just into four letter words. Konical 06-12-2005, 05:40 PM Good Afternoon,
Just a weak imagination on my part. I use the Koni-Omega MF system and a Calumet view camera.
Konical disfromage 06-12-2005, 05:53 PM My wife came up with mine. It's lousy french for "say cheese", what is said before every snapshot that is taken in the US. Besides, I like to make people smile...

something like that it must have been way back when we didn't know what we were getting into..
but thinking of changing it to gollum. It fits our duplicity better perhaps joeyk49 06-12-2005, 06:00 PM "Joey": What everone in my family called me as a child, (because I was a Jr.), which I hated, thoroughly and have now,as an adult, become comfortable with.

I knew there had to be a story... Flotsam 06-12-2005, 06:21 PM Many, many years ago, when I signed up with AOL, they asked me to choose a screen name. Unfortunately, any word that vaguely resembled my name or had any significance to me was taken and they kept coming back with, "That name is taken, we suggest 'Yourname5372'". I didn't want some meaningless number as part of my name so I kept trying different variations. After about a hundred tries, I got impatient and just started typing in any random word that came into my mind. "Flotsam" was the first thing that it would take without trying to tag a number onto its ass end so I used that on AOL and then tended to use it for other sites on the internet that needed a screen name after that.
When I found APUG, I figured it was just yet another photo site that I would visit once or twice and then forget about and I certainly wasn't about to give my real name to some shady character in New Zealand so I used my well worn alter identity. I never asked Sean to change it because, after all, "A Rose by any other name..." :D TPPhotog 06-12-2005, 06:29 PM TP are my initials and I like photography ..... boring really but I prefer to save my imagination for things other than using a laptop :( Bob F. 06-12-2005, 06:30 PM I'm secretly a notorious axe murderer wanted by Interpol so I can't use my real name of John Lynch...
...Oh... Bugger...
