View Full Version : Should I Get Another Photo Printer?

At the moment I don't have a photo printer. Reason is that I have had several Epson photo printers but they have all died. I currently have an Epson color laser for documents but still considering whether I should buy another printer. I am a brand shopper by default and will probably buy another Epson.

Having taken some photo courses and read a ton of stuff about calibration of the monitors and printers, I am torn between investing in a photo printer or just going to the local photo shop and have prints made.

Please APUG users, "Pimp My Thoughts"!

Thoughts please!!!!!

I'll pimp your thoughts:

How do you join Darkroom > Enlarging with monitor calibration and photo printer?
Wrong forum.

Photo printers die when you put developer into it. :)

The solution is to get:
- An enlarger
- Some trays
- Chemicals
- Some photo paper

...then you can make nice prints.

My Omega D-II was made sometime between 1937 and 1955, and it's still going strong.

Okay, sorry for piling on. A lot of us use digital for some purposes, but we discuss it elsewhere, just to keep the APUG forums focused. There is a "grey area" forum for hybrid analog/digital processes like making digital enlarged negatives for platinum printing under the Alt Process forum. I would guess that this subject is out of bounds, but that's up to the moderator.

sure, we love you :)

BTW, if you don't have a printer at the moment, just get out and buy one.
I don't have the knowledge nor the interest in the equipment to give you any decent advice on the subject.

Roger, and thanks all for keeping me straight!

Dear Jazz,

I have purchased my last photo printer. The number of times that it gets used and the cost per print have shown me that sending a file elsewhere is the way to go. Keep the cheap ink jet around for the kids.

The best photo printers I've seen can't be bought, but you can always hire Bob Carnie or Jorge or Alex Hawley or Ole or perhaps Darth Apug himself!
OK you may be able to buy Bob with the right choice of beer, but it might be cheaper just to hire him.
;)

That was my problem, the printers were not used. And when I went to use them they broke. BTW, what forum should this post had been put in?

I am sure any one of the printers Rogueish mentioned would mind being used and considering their dedication to the job I am sure they would not brake. If they did there are now little pills to help that too. :D

We are just using your post as a spring board to have a bit of fun. Don't worry about it. You cleared the mishap up on the first page.
