As a relatively new film photographer, I have so much to learn. Is there a magazine which focusses on film? Nothing I see on my news stand covers Azo, Cibachrome, various developers etc etc etc

Instead I feel like I keep spamming the forums with questions! (LIKE THIS ONE!!!)

Photo Techniques and some others have articles on analog photograhpy, but are all afflicted with "digital creep."

Lens Work and Camera Arts/View Camera have less emphasis on technique and more on the artistic side of photography, though both are weighted more toward analog.

That's about it, malheuresment, as the French say.

B&W photographer in the UK is a great magazine.
There is digital stuff, but the bulk of the magazine is traditional photography.
AP in the UK covers the whole photo market, it's sort of 50/50 film/digital, which is great.

Gareth is right, Black and White Photographer is a good magazine. A few digital articles, althought for the most part film and darkrooms are featured.
There is even a monthly feature on readers home darkrooms which is interesting, to me, anyway.
You can find this magazine at the larger chain stores.
Lenswork is also a great magazine, although more emphasis on the creative process, much less on technique and nuts and bolts.
View Camera magazine is good also.

Not many magazines cater to film photographers anymore. The afore mentioned ones are good. Your best bet is to head to a public library and check out some old books on photography. There is a wealth of into in there.

Not any, in the context of the OP's, snaggs, inquiry.

Old books are full of old information; film and chemistry
no longer available, techniques which have become
antiquated or have now alternatives.

THOUGH, for an over all picture, some old book reading I
think a good idea, as long as it is not thought of in specific
as the holy grail. After all, I use GRADED FIBER BASE PAPER
in a BRIGHT, YELLOW-ORANGE lit darkroom.

Then again, I process prints single tray, one-shot, using
neutral to alkaline chemistry. Where but here would
one read of that or, or, or, ... . Dan

Yes there is a magazine dedicated wholly to analogue photography and the different techniques you mentioned. It is called : apug !

Don't feel embarrassed when you post questions here. That's what apug is all about. Just keep on shooting film.

Thanks all, I was thinking of View Camera. I've seen B&W Photographer, but it seems more foccussed on the art/gallery side, with features on peoples photos, rather than techniques etc.

You've probably seen B&W, rather than Black and White Photography. The latter is a UK mag. Emulsion isn't out yet.

I receive the "Black and White Enthusiast" magazine which has just changed its name to "Silvershotz". see its home page at

They call themselves an International Journal of Fine Art Photography.

In my experience, every article is focused on analog photography. Actually in the latest issue they do present one article telling you how to go from A to D and back to A again, but this was the first taste of D I have seen in a long time for that magazine.
Check out the contents of the back issues online to get a better idea of what they cover.

If you go to the library check to see if they have any "Darkroom and Creative Camera Techniques" or the 2 name changes(which elude me right now) after that. They were a great magazine until about 2000. Then, like Kodak, promised to always be loyal to the film photographer. They lied. I got almost all their issue from 1989-2002. That when my subscription finally ran out.
