I was still having trouble with the pizza wheels on my Epson 2200 scratching little lines into my photowarehouse OHP even though I had raised them using the technique spoken about here on Apug. So what did I do? I took the whole damnable thing out!

This isn't recommended for any but the insane, but using a screwdriver (to pry at retaining clips) and a dremel tool with a metal cutting bit you can remove everything that causes problems, or so I thought....

I was getting some slight banding in the lighter areas and when I held the negative up to the light I could see banding running through the entire print (vertical banding).

After looking at the patter I realized that the OHP was so flexible that when the print head was actually printing on the substrate it was pushing it down away from the head--if you look at your printer where it actually prints you see an area with little plastic knobs which hold the paper up the print head, but it is not a solid area and so the OHP bows down. I taped a piece of OHP to a sheet of Epson Semi-Luster paper and sent it through the printer--voila! No more banding! From now on I will do this for all of the sheets I print on, it only takes about 2 minutes to perfectly line it up and tape them together (I just use 2 small pieces of tape).

Now ZERO problems with any scratches and no banding--I'm one happy photog :)

Jeremy, thanks very much for information. I'll benefit a lot since I have the same problem as yours.
