View Full Version : Meatpacking District, NYC gr82bart 07-16-2005, 04:45 PM Anyone interested in doing an early morning shoot here? I am talking meeting at 4:30am <-- you read this correctly and then shooting the various meat packers 'process' the carcasses and stuff.
I already have a couple of friends who want to do this, but want to know if there is more interest from others. I am planning to get the proper permits and stuff.
Oh, yeah, it'll have to be on a 'school day' - Monday to Friday, that is. Look at it this way, you can go straight to work afterwards.
Art. VoidoidRamone 07-16-2005, 04:53 PM yes! or I think I should be able to. What date? I'm in the city till the end of the month, then back out again at the end of august. Thanks.
-Grant David A. Goldfarb 07-16-2005, 04:55 PM Let me know the date, and I'll try to make it. Flotsam 07-16-2005, 05:18 PM Anyone interested in doing an early morning shoot here? I am talking meeting at 4:30am

That must be a typo.
Everyone knows that there is no such thing as 4:30 in the _morning_. It's a myth. highpeak 07-16-2005, 05:44 PM Let me know the date also. I will be there if my alarm clock "works" :) aj-images 07-16-2005, 05:54 PM I'm in and hopefully will have the 8x10 ready! David A. Goldfarb 07-16-2005, 08:43 PM What are the lighting conditions like down there at that hour? I'm guessing they have some kind of artificial light to work. Is it easy to get good views, or are there trucks blocking all the activity? darkroom 07-16-2005, 09:37 PM I would be interested in a shoot there, just let me know the date, i wont be free from aug 1-7, but anytime before or after would be great. You're quite right Neal. 4:30am is just late evening to us Nightowls. Just about the time things start to go right in the darkroom and you've gotta work like crazy before the darn sun comes up and spoils your fun. :)
P.S. If I may suggest when you pick which day to go to the meat-works, don't pick the day after pay day. Hung over men with very sharp knives is not a good combination. And I just know I'm gonna regret saying that. :) gr82bart 07-18-2005, 07:18 AM Jumping juhosifax (sp?). I didn't realize there so many other masi...err...enthusiasts. OK, well how does Friday, August 12 sound to everyone?
I'll apply for a film permit for Gansevoort St, 11th Ave, 10th Ave, 9th Ave, 14th St, 13th, Little 12th St and say it will be a group.
If you want to apply on your own to shoot outside these streets or later, you'll have to apply on your own. It's easy and it's free.
I also have the phone numbers of some of the companies in the area. I'll try to get is IN the plants themselves. Otherwise it's all street shooting.
As for lighting, it will obviously be mixed lighting - natural, neon, flourescent, tungsten, all sorts...and yes, there will be trucks everywhere, so we all have to pay special care to safety.
Art. David A. Goldfarb 07-18-2005, 07:52 AM I'll be in Maui on August 12, so I won't be able to make it. Enjoy! VoidoidRamone 07-18-2005, 10:21 AM I won't be able to make it either, but if there is another one of these trips please tell. Thanks.
-Grant highpeak 07-19-2005, 12:15 PM I am ok any date in Aug, and front half of Sep. gr82bart 07-19-2005, 02:51 PM Looks like this date is no good for many people. I'll try another date. Will post later.
Regards, Art. Ben Diss 07-21-2005, 08:12 PM This sounds like a fun morning. I work in midtown so I could just go to work afterwards. Count me in.
-Ben gr82bart 08-11-2005, 07:16 AM Hi Guys,
Sorry this took so long. How about Friday morning, August 19th? That's next week...
Art. highpeak 08-11-2005, 11:27 PM Art, I am good to go. VoidoidRamone 08-11-2005, 11:54 PM I won't be able to make that date, but I'm anxious to see everyone's results. Hopefully I can make the next one.
-Grant Paul Sorensen 08-12-2005, 12:31 AM Grant, have you left us here in Colorado? I was hoping we would manage to have a get together and I could meet you, I am a fan of the work in your gallery. I am leaving for college in 2 weeks, but I might be back for summers and around Christmas time. If something was put together quickly enough I would be very excited and do my best to make it though, I know there's been talk about it every once in a while... Thanks for the compliment!
