What's the difference between the F4 and the F4s? I keep looking at them at the local camera store and there is a $5 difference in price between them. Can anyone enlighten me?

The F4s has the MB-2something winder attached. For the extra $5, I'd get the F4s. There's also an F4e, which I have, that has the MB-2somethingelse motor drive. Art. narsuitus 08-11-2005, 08:14 AM The F4 comes with a built in motor drive. The F4s is the same camera but sold with an additional MB-21 battery pack that uses AA alkaline batteries and boosts the firing rate of the motor drive. gr82bart 08-11-2005, 08:25 AM Oops, I stand corrected. Art. colrehogan 08-11-2005, 08:46 AM I see. I've heard how great the camera was and saw these two models in the store. How do these F4 models compare to the F5? I have an F5 already. Jan Cornelius 08-11-2005, 08:49 AM F4s with MD is larger and heavier ... Unless you need the extra speed I'd go for the normal one. Ps. Check out the serial numbers, the higher the better, they go up till about 25xxxxx. between a 21xxxxx and a 23xxxxx upwards their are quite a few positive differences. gr82bart 08-11-2005, 08:58 AM How do these F4 models compare to the F5? There are some drawbacks in that many auto-focu lenses are 'slow' - we're talking miliseconds here. I use AFS lenses only and the speed is fine. Also G lenses will not allow you to use AP mode. I still LOVE my F4 though. Art. narsuitus 08-11-2005, 09:47 AM I see. I've heard how great the camera was and saw these two models in the store. How do these F4 models compare to the F5? There is a comparison worth reading on the Nikonians forum. http://www.nikonians.org/dcforum/DCForumID61/2039.html df cardwell 08-11-2005, 10:01 AM The F4 is better is you manually focus your lenses. colrehogan 08-11-2005, 10:39 AM Thanks for your replies. I wasn't trying to start a flame war. ;) I had considered getting one of these F4 bodies. I may just get another F5 body for if I ever need to send off this one. They are getting really cheap now too. MattCarey 08-11-2005, 10:56 AM Wasn't someone here on APUG selling an F5 body used? Matt roteague 08-11-2005, 01:42 PM They are getting really cheap now too. Yes, I recently bought an F5 in almost new condition for $750. It is quite a camera. The only thing I have found with the camera is that it doesn't lock focus as easily as my old N80 does, but I can live with it. |
