View Full Version : NEW SITE DESIGN Hello all, I will be switching over to the new site design soon. I anticipate several tweaks that will need to be made so please be patient while I iron out the kinks. If you have any major problems you can post them in this thread.
Thanks! Sean vet173 10-09-2005, 02:32 AM I like the new look. John Thanks John, still a few tweaks to put in and some adjustments, should have most of it sorted out within a few hours :) gordrob 10-09-2005, 02:50 AM The new format has a nice look and feel to it and is easier to navigate.
Keep up the good work
Regards
Gord Mike Kennedy 10-09-2005, 02:54 AM Another + vote Sean.
Sweet!
Mike Baxter Bradford 10-09-2005, 03:19 AM Having just been out for a dawn shoot, the new appearance took me by surprise on my return!
Initial thoughts are that it is a lot better and that clearly you have thought things through well. I now need to learn the new ropes, just a few million femto-seconds no doubt.
How about changing featured member though to really sweep old look away. It has been same since I joined and he no longer seems to make active contributions. blackmelas 10-09-2005, 04:18 AM Love the new look and width. Its a small thing but the community|member journals link did not work from the regional groups page.
Thanks,

That's on the list this week for sure, long overdue.. medform-norm 10-09-2005, 04:57 AM What a surprise this morning! It's an excellent new design. And what a thoughtful thing to have dr. Bob's quote in the header.
The site seems a little slower to respond, though, or it must be the early Sunday internet traffic jam... Bob F. 10-09-2005, 04:58 AM Looks good... Is that a new APUG logo or am I hallucinating (again)?
Been browsing for a while and only found one small bug-ette The "Last six hours posts" option on the Member Links menu leaves out the left hand column when it refreshes the page...
Cheers, Bob. yup new logo courtesy of our own blaze-on, he was a HUGE help with the logo and will have to thank him properly in a seperate thread. Site seems fairly quick for me. There is definitely a bug with the left side bar not showing on some search results pages, just looking into it now.. Fintan 10-09-2005, 05:48 AM whoor, love the new skin :D Very nice and good feel to it. Thanks Sean. SuzanneR 10-09-2005, 08:22 AM Excellent job, Sean! Really clean and easy to navigate. Hats off to you! Sean you are spoiling us. Being a software developer I can certainly appreciate the effort in maintaining and upgrading a site of this size. Kudos and thanks, well done :) jnanian 10-09-2005, 09:28 AM wow! nice changes to the site sean ...
2 quick question though - the gallery + chatroom links no longer shows up on the "bar"
(home - community - sponser &C ) ... is there another way to get there?
i sort of remembered that i could just type "gallery" or "chat" after " forums/'xxxx' " ...
though there might be a "hot link" that i just don't see this early in the morning ... (maybe it's my mac ? >>> safari or camino ? )
as always -
much thanks!
-john Jim Chinn 10-09-2005, 10:21 AM Looks real good Sean. I would like to throw out a couple of suggestions.
If not already planned, fill the remaining "white space" on the left of the current posting list below the recent articles list. It's a little thing but all that white space is visually annoying.
I think you need to have a spot on the front page that says something to the effect "Benefits of subscribing listed here" or "5 Reaons to Subscribe to APUG"
then link off of that the the subscriber page. This will do two things. First, most new time users will go to the page if it is prominently displayed just to read it. Second, once those reasons are in their mind, they are more apt to subscribe, especially when they are reminded every time they come to the site with that flag on the home page.
I know you don't want to hit people over the head with the subscription thing but I think it needs better displayed to remind new visitors and non-subscribing members about that option. bobfowler 10-09-2005, 10:24 AM Absolutely marvelous! Great job Sean! bobbysandstrom 10-09-2005, 10:32 AM Sean, comprehensive, yet elegant design. WOW! Carol Flutot 10-09-2005, 10:36 AM Great Job Sean! Love it!!
Carol mgb74 10-09-2005, 10:56 AM It is a very clean design - something often missing today. jd callow 10-09-2005, 11:43 AM Love the design. love the Dr Bob quote. love the logo. heck I'm just toped off with love...
XOXOXOX
jdc glbeas 10-09-2005, 11:49 AM Nice job Sean. As far as galleries I miss a quick link, too. It's one of the first thing I look at when coming to the site. I'd suggest though something like the number of posts since last visit link - XXX new images since last visit. Saves calling up the gallery if theres nothing new to see, may even save some bandwidth in the doing. |
