Over the last few days there has been an issue that has been bothering me -it has also made me smile because it has made me feel like a member of some sort of taliban-like sect who's having doubts about his own orthodoxy. I recently took some shots with my wife´s digital camera: it was a family occasion and I ended up with a couple of shots of my brother's twin daughters that he liked. I decided to make some prints for him, but since I am not particularly interested in digital prints I thought I would produce some cyanotypes from those shots (that is what I'm into at the moment). So I desaturated the files, adjusted contrast and inverted and printed them. I then proceeded to use them as paper negatives to end up with the cyanotype prints I had originally envisaged. The fact of the matter is that I have since produced further cyanotypes from other digital shots taking advantage of the fact that I can produce larger negatives that way(Till now my choice was between 6x6 and 12x16 inch pinhole negatives). Now, I would like to share some of those cyanotypes with other apuggers, and my question is: would the apug community find the original digital capture unacceptable, or would the fact that a paper negative was used validate my cyanotypes? Do you get what I mean when I say I feel like a dissident Taliban risking decapitation...?

It was taken with a digigizmo, manipulated via photoshop, enough said.

I liked you up until now. Your comment above is not only incorrect, but it makes you sound like a snob.

If he's producing paper negatives and happens to be using a digital camera for one of the steps, IMO the 'grey area' is perfect for him.

I know that this thread would be more than welcome there. Maybe someone ought to move it before more APUGG'ers get offended.

The threads been moved. I think your best bet is to attach files to a post. Digital Digital Analog is probably as dark grey as it gets around here (most discuss ADA) and an image made this way and posted in the gallery would fray some nerves.

Thank you for your answers. Since the concept of a digital negative had occasionally cropped up before I thought I would test the waters about this.
