Hello everyone,

I subscribed to this great site a while ago, but I have not taken the time to introduce myself. I’m now enjoying my winter break so I finally have time to write an introduction. My name is Guillermo Meraz, I live in central California and I work as a computer programmer/administrator. I’m fairly new to photography. Just last year I began taking photography classes at my local community college.

Why did I do this? Well, I love to travel and I enjoy documenting my travels. Unfortunately, my pictures rarely captured what I had seen through the viewfinder (believe me this was a big frustration). So following the advice of a friend, I began to study photography. I’m glad I followed his advice, my photographs are improving and as a bonus, I discovered the joy of working in the darkroom!

I’m currently using a beat up Contax RTS II (The previous owner had thrown the camera to the trash!) and a Pentax 645. My favorite B&W films are PanF 50, Delta 100 and HP5+. In color, I prefer Reala, Provia 100 and Velvia 50. I can’t say much about developers. I’ve only used Ilford’s ID-11. As for papers, I’ve only used Ilford’s and Forte’s glossy RC papers developed in Dektol. I like them both. They have nice rich blacks. I’ve also work with R4 chemistry. However, I did not enjoy printing color at all.

Anyway, I look forward to become a contributing member of this community.

I hope you are enjoying the holidays.

-Guillermo

Hi Robert,

I'm in the Central Valley. The town is Turlock, which is 90 miles east of San Francisco. I must say the town is not very exacting. Fortunately, the Bay Area and the Sierras are only a short drive away :)

To Matt and Greg,

Glad to hear from Canadians. I've met quite a few of them in London (I've never been to Canada). And, what can I say, they are a happy bunch!

Hi Karen,

I guess it's not too late to wish you a Happy New Year. Hey, I'm also a CSU student, but I attend the Stanislaus campus. Looking forward to see your work. I'll check out your intro.
Later.

The Central Valley has its own beauty; I used to live over in Monterey (Ft. Ord).
