The 4800 is a good printer for digital negatives except that it has problems handling small sized media such 8.5x11 sheets - at least that is what I've read online.

You don't need the Colorbyte RIP for digital negativess, the Epson printer driver will work just fine using Mark's method.

The Image Print RIP is a nice product no doubt. I'm not sure what your other inkjet printing interests maybe but if you are interested in B&W output the Epson B&W output can work very nicely. Ink Jet Control and Quad Tone RIP are also great products for making B&W prints.

As a matter of fact Crane's Silver Rag printed on a 4800 truely rivals air dried silver gelatin fiber based prints.

Do you make your own profiles for Imageprint or can you only use ones provided by Colorbyte? I thought that it was the latter. In that case IJC/OPM (which is what I use, though not for digital negs) and QTR are going to be more suitable because they give you more control. You could even prepare profiles that printed a negative directly from a positive file. QTR is so cheap that it has to be worth trying.

Don mentions the unfortunately named 'Silver Rag' (Rag, yes; silver, no. Why pretend?). There is also Innova Fibaprint Glossy in the same league, when used with the K3 inks.

As a user of the 4800 I can telly that I have no problems with 8.5x11 paper feeding from the paper tray. Some problems with 8x10. The 4800 will not handle smaller sizes than that with any reliability but again 8.5x11 no problems and I have used several different papers in that size.

I should have been more specific in that some users have reported problems with transparency materials such as Pictorico OHP and other similar products. This was a reported problem with the 7600 too so YMMV.

I am looking at ImagePrint to do color work and was just wondering how well it would work for digital negatives too.
