I'm looking for a AF zoom for my N80 that gets out to 200 and has a relatively short barrel. Good optics, contrast, preferred at the longer focal lengths over the short end. Macro feature (small close minimum focus) a plus. 3rd party or Nikon. Thanks for you help.

Have you checked out the Tamron 28-200 AF? It's no match for a prime, or more moderate mid-range zoom, but it does perform well for a zoom of that size.

I also suggest the Tamron 28-200. Compact lens, for sure. Works great on my FA as well as my N80 and um, D70s.

Yes. I believe that they are on model # 4. I have the second and first editions. The current model is supposedly the best of the lot. Very affordable too. Here's a review on them.
