I just got an "un-famous" lens - a late 270mm f:6.8 Meyer Görlitz Doppel Anastigmat.

Guess what: It's a Dagor. So the image circle should be around 45cm at small apertures, and that looks reasonable from just looking at it. Certainly plenty for my 24x30cm camera, almost enough for the 30x40cm. Not bad for 24 Euros?

Matt,

You should be receiving your lens shortly. Please keep us posted about your findings once you get it.

Got my lens in the mail yesterday. from Beijing nonetheless.
Havent shot with it yet. But just mounting it and seeing how it covered seemed to cover when centered. Its REALLY wide, or much wider than Im used to seeing on the groundglass. will be interesting to use for interior shots, architecture etc.
using more than an inch of rise showed the image coverage ran out.
Excited to shoot some with it in the next few days.

Matt,

Good to hear the lens arrived in good condition. Keep us posted on lens performance, coverage, and if you think that it would allow for any enlargement.

Cool, Matt. Getting a new lens that shows promise is almost as exciting as meeting a 30-something woman who has a "thing" for older guys who don't take pills. ;-)

I'm anxious to see some results with the new lens.

That is pretty funny.

Hi Matt,

I see that you have posting in the galleries. I admit, I have been delinquent in checking the images, but any results with the new lens yet?

Im in the process of developing the first 4 sheets. will likely get to them this afternoon. I didnt want to shoot any potentially "important" images until I had tested it. Just havent gotten around to developing them as of yet. promise Ill post them soon :)

Im slow like molasses.
I finally got around to printing a negative from the recently acquired 270mm G Claron... in case anyone happen to be interested. I know Rich was asking about it.

Hi Matt,

Thanks for letting us know that you finally got something in print and uploaded.

Nice post in the gallery. Will make comment there as well. I know that the lens and format will probably more than I ever use shooting transparencies, but how do you like the lens? Will it do what you want and provide enough sharpness and coverage if you wish to enlarge the image?

in all honesty I wouldnt enlarge a 7x17 negative shot with this lens.
well, in all honesty, I dont think Ill ever enlarge a 7x17 negative at all given the logistics and sheer cumbersome it would likely be.

back to the lens, its just not the sharpest tool in the shed. Kerik was spot on about his comment earlier in this thread, about the lens being somewhat soft in the corners. It also doesnt have a huge image circle. The corners are black in that interior shot but given the scene it seems passable.
I imagine that the coverage would increase a bit if I had the lens elements screwed into a copal #3 with the smaller f64+ aperture. As the barrel mount stops down to f45.
I mounted it on my 8x10 and the coverage was pretty good along with it looking pretty sharp throughout the GG.
Havent shot any 8x10 film though.

basically, it suffices just fine for contact printing 7x17. It will have limited usage I think, Id like to shoot some more and find out if it will work or not.
