Hi ya'll! I just purchased Crumpler's "ben's pizza XXL" and perfectly happy with it, and i decided to get a second bag... a bigger one. I looked at crumplereurope.com and couln't find the information how would a messenger bag work with photo equipment -- are they padded enough? Do messenger bags have those internal deviders? I believe you can buy a photo insert for some of those bags, but is that a must? Ben's pizza fit's nicely for a big slr body (lens attached) + 2 prime lenses (+accessories) set, but I wouldn't mind having free space more...for example more film, cell phone, back-up body etc...
By the way, those Crumpler models seem to vary depending where you live... Outside Europe there is a bag called "7 million dollar home" photo bag - that would be perfect, but I can't find that bag from europe (and when ordered from Adorama, the postal charges to Finland are over 50 USD...too expensive)... Any idea where to find that bag with "decent" shipping costs? Inside US, the shipping was free when ordered straight from crumpler...

Hi PMU,
The messengerbags are not padded at all, I own two of them and they are indestructible. If you want to carry gear in them you should really see if you can find an insert for them or provide alternative packaging for your gear. In the Netherlands Crumpler also has a store and several distributers to check out the bags and see if your gear fits nicely maybe you can find out if there is a store lik ethat near you.
Good luck with that.

The Crumpler bags have the option of padded photo inserts. I use the Fux Deluxe with my Tech V 4x5" camera. An attraction of the insert is that you can take it out and use the bag as a big messenger bag if needed without having to unpack everything.

Where do you find those camera inserts to crumpler bags? I haven't found not even one photo insert from retailer's websites... :(

I got mine from the Crumpler store in Soho (New York). I'm not sure if they are still down there, since that was a few years ago. I assume they're still making them, but maybe not. Try some of the websites that sell luggage or maybe the Crumpler website directly.

You could also look at photobackpacker.com - they have some cases designed for such applications.

You might look at Courierware bags : http://www.courierbags.com/level.itml/icOid/20 They make courier bags with padded camera inserts and will sell the inserts by themselves. They look pretty nice.

Crumpler are from Melbourne! thats so cool they're sold overseas and have their own outlets.
You could just buy some foam rubber and cut the shapes out as a cheaper option.

Domke also has some inserts available. Both single row and two row. They're probably a little on the small side(~12-14"X3 1/2") for the Crumpler
