Today I was shopping in my photo shop and they offered Summicron - M for 670 USD. Only one problem - on the lens its marked as

Litz Lens Summicron-M 1:2/35 Made in Canada

any advice about this lens?

many thanks

j.

I've found this thread on the net http://photo.net/bboard/q-and-a-fetch-msg?msg_id=00CifH&tag=

It looks there would be no problem, only in canada version they "use maple leaves for aperture blades" :-)

I have one of those and I'm very pleased with it.
No real differences with anything made on Germany, for some time lens production (or a big part of it at least) moved from Wetzlar to their factory in Canada. Despite some people argued about quality of gear made here or there, the fact is that they're built and perform equally. That label it's only a collector concern.

I've had two of these lenses. Both were excellent. Leitz made equipment in Canada and Portugal, in addition to Wetzlar, and I don't think anyone ever found the quality of their optics to suffer.

I just want to add that I have one of these lenses and use it all the time. I often go out with just that lens and a pocket full of Tri-x. Simple and makes me happy. It is very, very nice, I'm sure you will be happy with it.

Made in Midland Ontario - I was in that area camping earlier this summer. Nothing wrong with a Canadian built Leica lens.
