Where is it????

If you have one, and can find this elusive little number, I'd appreciate it!

TIA

Black on black is alway tough.

Turn camera over, looking at the bottom straight at the tripod socket, with the battery compartment to the left. Bring you eye up from the tripod socket to the lens mount without moving the camera. About a 1/3 ofthe way down from the silver mounting ring you'll see black numbers on the black surface of the raised portion of the camera body.

It should start with 'US."

Tough to find.

For the sake of those who pull this from the archive in the future, the serial number only begins with "US" if it's a US-market camera.

My F100 from Nikon Canada just has boring numbers. :)

I was assuming SuzanneR did not have a 'gray' market camera since she lives in Massachusetts.

Everywhere else the ss# does not begin with 'US.'

This SS# thread got me to thinking I need to update my records.

I have two F-100's, both purchased "used" and both work great.

One came with the MB-15 battery pack attached. I cannot turn the knurled knob - almost like it's glued in there - to remove it and look for the SS#.

Any ideas? (I don't have the "catalog" for the MB-15 to see how it is mounted to figure out who did what to make it "unremovable")!

Funny thing is, I also have the "daddy" F-5 and the SS# is prominently "white on black" stencil right on the back of the body!

George... I can't help you with the MB-15 battery pack, but you might also have a look at the Nikon website. There are some forums there, and in fact, I found a thread that showed where the serial number is on a lot of their products... it just didn't include any of their film cameras....grrrr... but you might do a search in those forums if there's no answer here!
