View Full Version : Monthly Shooting Assignment - May and June 2007 John Bartley 05-03-2007, 10:52 AM Ok folks, May is here and the victim of choice from the last assignment is "spark" and the subject for the next two month shooting period will be posted shortly right here in this thread!!
I think that this is an assignment that we can eat right up :p !! so stay tuned !!
Spark will be judging the entries for the next two months so have at it!!
cheers spark 05-03-2007, 01:17 PM Okay, the idea is "mealtime". Any pictures depicting eating, drinking, cooking, serving, washing the dishes, and so on. Also the meal itself- a still life of a sandwich, for example. The only qualification is an immediate connection with the actual meal- no fields of wheat or falling down fruit stands (unless somebody's eating there).
Bring a camera to work and you can knock this one out over lunch. kraker 05-03-2007, 02:17 PM Okay, the idea is "mealtime". Sounds good! It should be more accessible than horses :) I hope I can give it a try... Sanjay Sen 05-03-2007, 11:04 PM Sounds good to me too! I hope I can put in at least one entry this time around - if not more. John Bartley 05-08-2007, 06:12 AM Okay, the idea is "mealtime". So, we're a week into the eight weeks of the May and June MSA and spark has given us a very straightforward assignment with lots of room for exploration and interpretation. We all eat several times a day (and in my case I'm glad to be back at work for the summer as "several" times a day was becoming "many") so we have lots of opportunities and a great variety of subjects available.
Get those burgers and hotdogs set up and let's see lots of photos of faces being stuffed!!
cheers waynecrider 05-11-2007, 11:37 AM Finally something I can sink my teeth into....
While wandering around a local art fest in Florida I came upon this scene surrounded by interested purchasers. I shot over everyones heads with a Pentax 928 on slide film.. It was great little camera while it lasted but it gave up the ghost as all things electronic do and wasn't worth fixing.

Great photo!!
cheers rosey 05-11-2007, 02:30 PM Wait just a minute there, guys and gals.
Here it is -- May 11 -- and today marks 131 days since I have eaten a morsel of food. No joke! Another crazy liquid protein diet. Not even an oyster cracker. Hope to go several more weeks. Lost more than 75 pounds so far.
Come to think of it, maybe a nice photo of my glass of Optifast or Slimfast?
Would that count? It's my version of mealtime. Of course, I have been known to take the wife to lunch or dinner while I knock back a Diet Coke (allowed). But photographing food while starving goes above and beyond the ordinary, I think.
Perhaps a photo of the protein powder before it is mixed with water?
Oh, the possibilities are limitless..... Stephanie Brim 05-11-2007, 03:00 PM I'm in. I cook enough. wheelygirl 05-13-2007, 04:58 PM O.K., then!! So far, I have in the current roll, a muffin!. So, obviously, I'm way in!! And those possiblities. . . copake_ham 05-14-2007, 10:56 AM I am kicking myself today. Because I need the "room" in my backpack - I took my R2S out of it this AM before walking to work.
And then, on my way in, at East 37th Street and 3rd Avenue, I saw what might have been the "killer" shot. A NYPD patrol car parked in front of a Dunkin' Donut shop! :D
I'm in - but I'll never have a chance for that shot again! :( Sanjay Sen 05-14-2007, 05:18 PM George, in that case you should visit NJ. There's a big chance you'll see a patrol car parked in front of some donut shop. :D John Bartley 06-16-2007, 06:05 AM Ok folks, we're half way through June so there's only two weeks left to post your pictures of steaks on the BBQ or salads in the making, so don't be shy!! MattKing 06-27-2007, 10:52 PM Okay, I've posted my entry:

Strawberries, grapes, brie, two types of feta, bleu cheese, Raincoast crackers...
Matt John Bartley 06-28-2007, 05:52 AM Matt, You're making me hungry ... I'd better go have a look :). copake_ham 06-28-2007, 09:50 PM Photo submitted - I don't know if it makes me hungry or gives me heartburn - but it's a wonderful world of food! :D
Oops, forgot to add the link: http://www.apug.org/gallery/showphoto.php?photo=25592 John Bartley 06-29-2007, 05:51 AM Hey - good photo George!! All that's missing is the beer tent :) !!
cheers John Bartley 07-01-2007, 12:18 PM So, the May and June MSA has concluded and all that's left is for the Right Honourable Judge "spark" to pick a victim, so stay tuned and I'm sure we'll hear shortly ..... spark 07-02-2007, 12:44 PM Okay, all- by my subjective and completely arbitrary eye, the pick is barbara ann's shot- "cooking cupcakes" . Honorable mention goes to copake_ham and waynecrider who inspired me to visit Kaspers' yesterday. (worth the BART ride across the bay if you're in San Francisco!). John Bartley 07-02-2007, 02:09 PM Congratulations Barbara Ann !! As the winning victim of the May and June MSA, you now have the somewhat dubious honour of being the next topic selector and of course The Judge!! :)
If you'd be kind enough to contact me by PM, we can discuss the next assignment.
cheers and thank you to all who participated these last two months. You all deserve a big round of applause! John Bartley 07-02-2007, 02:14 PM Thank you to spark for doing the judging duty for this last MSA round - it's greatly appreciated!!
cheers copake_ham 07-05-2007, 01:15 PM John,
Do we have a July/August assignment yet? John Bartley 07-05-2007, 03:00 PM Hi George,
No, unfortunately I have yet to hear from Barbara Ann. I have PM'd twice to her, so she must be off enjoying a summer vacation somewhere (I hope her absence is for a fun reason :) )
I think I'm going to have to make an executive decision here ... please stay posted eh? :) There will be news shortly.
