View Full Version : MN get together, or photo shoot? Andrew Moxom 05-15-2007, 10:56 PM Any Minnesotans interested in getting together to shoot some film at one of our lovely State parks or cities? Quarry Park in St. Cloud is always an interesting place to visit. It is an old Quartz mine and a series of spring fed pits that even contain some fish.
Or Duluth, Two Harbors and the North Shore? Dana Sullivan 05-15-2007, 11:29 PM I'm going to be in Minnesota next month. I'll keep an eye on this thread and see what progresses. Thomas Bertilsson 05-16-2007, 01:54 AM St Cloud sounds interesting. The North Shore is such a hike, more like a weekend project. It would be an interesting idea to do something like that some time, however. A full weekend up on Lake Superior.
Good idea, Andrew.
- Thomas Rlibersky 05-16-2007, 07:26 AM I would be interested in doing something. I've never photographed the St cloud area, could be fun. Bruce Osgood 05-16-2007, 08:42 AM Just got back yesterday from 10 days in St.James, S.W. area. I'll be back their in July and if anything comes up after the 8th I could probably join in. St,. Cloud sounds good also. Don't know if there will be much of anything left after the fire in the North gets under control. Andrew Moxom 05-16-2007, 08:46 AM I have a pop-up camper so a weekend trip up to Superior/Duluth area would be cool with me.
Let me work on something for the St. Cloud area. What about dates? I am thinking 2nd Weekend in June Andrew Moxom 05-16-2007, 09:06 AM Also a thought. Should we extend and invitation to our neighbors in Wisconsin? I know they have a fairly active group of APUG'ers Andrew Moxom 05-16-2007, 03:59 PM Okay an update. I have spoken to a good friend of mine. Sunday June 10th is a go for the photo visit to St. Cloud's Quarry Park where he can show us the way in. I know that other folks have mentioned dates in July, maybe other trips can be arranged, and other venues, and people can chime in and lead those? Dana Sullivan 05-16-2007, 04:14 PM Ahhh, too bad, I won't be in Minnesota until the 9th, and we'll be in Perham, which is an hour east of Moorehead/Fargo for the first few days.
You folks are more than welcome to come up north while I'm there :) Andrew Moxom 05-16-2007, 04:29 PM Dana, I cannot do that that day, but no doubt more opportunities will be available in the future. How often do you get to MN? Thomas Bertilsson 05-17-2007, 09:12 AM Andrew, the day-trip on June 10th sounds very interesting. I think I'll be there, rain or shine. We should think about commuting the way the gas prices are these days... Where are you located? I'm in St.Paul, straight across the river from Fort Snelling, a couple of blocks off the river.
- Thomas Andrew Moxom 05-17-2007, 09:18 AM Thomas, I could swing by and pick you up as I am in Woodbury. Then we could car pool up to St. Cloud Thomas Bertilsson 05-17-2007, 09:31 AM Sounds great. I'll PM you my address.
- Thomas Thomas Bertilsson 05-17-2007, 02:38 PM I think the idea of inviting our neighbors in Wisconsin is a good idea. Not too bad of a drive. Andrew Moxom 05-18-2007, 08:59 AM Invitation to WI APUGers is sent. We'll see who is interested. So far I've only got a firm committment from Thomas, who else is wanting to go on June 10th? Rlibersky 05-19-2007, 07:13 PM Invitation to WI APUGers is sent. We'll see who is interested. So far I've only got a firm committment from Thomas, who else is wanting to go on June 10th?
Checking my schedule now. Looks like a possibility. Thomas Bertilsson 05-20-2007, 07:18 PM The more the merrier! Hope you can make it.
- Thomas Andrew Moxom 05-22-2007, 10:03 AM So, I still only have committment from Thomas, and a friend of mine for Sunday June 10th at St. Cloud. If any other Minnesotans and Wisconsin APUG'ers want to join, please let me know.
I also want to gauge feedback and interest on an APUG trip up to the north shore. We could go for a weekend trip along the scenic highway 61. If you like to camp, this could be a good trip for that, and plenty to photograph. I am flexible on dates and times, but we need to start planning it now if we are to reserve campgrounds, B&B's or whatever mattk 05-24-2007, 08:35 PM I've been away for awhile and am glad I checked the regional forum. I would love to come along. I went to school @SCSU and have family 20min north of St.Cloud. Count me in. Someone want to post a meeting time/place and I'll show.
Matt zenrhino 05-25-2007, 12:24 AM Andrew, I believe (pending work stuff) that I can make it. Im in the Cities so it'd just be a short drive for me. Andrew Moxom 05-25-2007, 08:16 AM So I have a list of 5 folks so far. My friend George who is local to St. Cloud, Thomas, Mattk, zenrhino, and myself. If anyone else is up for it, please let us know on this thread. Andrew Moxom 06-04-2007, 09:00 AM I will have a meeting point later this week. I missed my local frined who is out on vacation until Friday. I will have another update at the weekend to give meet up details. I do have to get a vote on a time to meet. Do you want to get there for sunrise? Or is a little later okay? Thomas Bertilsson 06-04-2007, 11:10 AM The earlier the better, but I'm reasonable. I can leave anywhere between 5am to whenever. It probably takes an hour or so to drive from my house.
- Thomas Andrew Moxom 06-04-2007, 03:36 PM Okay, the plan is as follows. I'll meet Thomas at 5am, and drive to St. Cloud. meet at the IHOP on hwy 23.
Directions are as follows:- I94 West to Hwy 15 exit. Go North. At the first stop light take a left (North) on Hwy 23 IHOP is 6 blocks on right hand side. Then we can make the call as to who needs breakfast etc. I'll be driving a green metallic Rav4. You won't miss Thomas who is very tall. Also my friend George is probably as tall as him!! Thomas Bertilsson 06-05-2007, 10:16 AM Sounds really good to me. I'm very much looking forward to it. Due to personal and working commitments, I haven't had an opportunity to completely focus on photography for a whole day since 2004. Even if I don't get a single shot worth printing, I'll still be happy about it!
Andrew is a really nice guy, and I'm looking forward to meeting some more people interested in film photography.
I was thinking that we should have some sort of deadline to when the latest time should be before we head out to Quarry park so we can get there before the full daylight hits.
