View Full Version : wayne from melbourne wayne naughton 06-14-2007, 09:53 AM Evening all. Another Aussie on the list..... cameras - all Minolta, manual, auto, 6x6 (and digital too for that matter <G>) plus a Fuji GA645 and a Mamiya M645 1000S. Always on the lookout for some nice, clean Rokkor glass to add to my (very) modest collection. not much more to add, i'm afraid
best wishes

drew munz6869 06-14-2007, 10:03 AM Hi Wayne, welcome to a fellow M645 1000s owner AND Melburnian!
Agreed with the sentiments - if it's not droughts it's flooding rains...

Welcome to APUG from NYC. Have heard about the flooding rains following the drought down there. What's next - pestilence? wayne naughton 06-14-2007, 10:20 AM Welcome from New England! You'll clearly enjoy yourself here.

i think we might pass on the pestilence, thankyou... <G> aaah, you get used to it, it's not a bad place to live in, tho this drought has been a real shocker and it aint finished yet for many, many people. thanks for the welcome, George. much appreciated
w roteague 06-14-2007, 11:32 AM Hi Wayne,
Welcome from Hawaii. I think you will enjoy this site, it is a great place to be.
I hope you are getting some rain down there - the flood part doesn't sound good though. I'll be in Victoria in about 3 months, and would love to see it green once again. wayne naughton 06-14-2007, 11:51 AM thanks Robert,
no floods in Vic, but some very nice early snow.... with a bit of luck it should rain solid for the next 3 months.... and then stop <Grin>
wayne Mike Wilde 06-14-2007, 12:55 PM From my travels through your town it can be four seasons in the same day at times.
Good to see another Minolta lurker. I don't believe that the finest gear requires the newest camera, nor a company with the biggest ad budget when the unit was originally made.
I am with Minolta because back when I was 17 my science teacher arranged a good package deal that about 5 of us bought in on for an x700 rig. That one lasted me til it got a soaker last year. There have also been a few SRT's and others along the years. Right now I am sold down to a SRT101 that I run B&W through, and a x570 that replaced the dead 700 and could still talk to the motor drive and dedicated flash units. Then there is my medium format Mamiya gear, and the wee rangefinder XA, and the junk and not so junk cameras that are fun too.
Is it just me, or do others find that once someone knows that you still shoot film, they give you their old camera?
I too have followed the drought situation. I lived in brizzie for almost 4 years. I hate to think of the dust that is blowing in parts of the country at present. I wish the continent all the best to fill up the Darling Murray basin and all the other parched watersheds. roteague 06-14-2007, 01:21 PM .... with a bit of luck it should rain solid for the next 3 months.... and then stop <Grin>
I have friends who own a farm near Yackandandah, and I know they could use the rain. I'll be in Bright in late September. wayne naughton 06-14-2007, 07:00 PM [QUOTE=Mike Wilde;480627]From my travels through your town it can be four seasons in the same day at times.

Hi Mike,
the real good thing about my SRT's is that i never get a bad picture out of them <chuckle>

My son has a Minolta outfit which includes a SRT and XE1 plus 21, 28, 35, 50, 135 and 300mm lenses. All sits in the cupboard and is no longer used, just got too much stuff! The Xe1 is one of the nicest, or maybe the nicest, of all the Minolta SLR's..... hmm, maybe I'll get it out and shoot some pictures with it.
Cheers, Tony wayne naughton 06-15-2007, 02:48 AM you should get all that beautiful minolta gear out of the cupboard and give it a good workout on some of those gorgeous landscapes you are blessed with up there <G> thanks for the welcome Tony....
wayne Mick Fagan 06-15-2007, 07:38 AM Welcome from another Melburnian.
Robert, I have friends at Tangambalanga, just up the road from Yackandah, they have recently had some reasonable rain but nothing flash, however not far from both of those places there has been some good rain and things are starting to look up.
The Yackandah creek is currently at 66cm and steady, not exactly flood material, eh?

Australia certainly needs the rain. I remember last year, driving up through Myrtleford and thinking I've never seen it so dry. I'm sure looking forward to going again. wayne naughton 06-15-2007, 06:23 PM Thanks, for the welcome Mick. A few weeks ago i caught the train to Little River to photograph the bluestone bridge and i was absolutely shocked. Dams were dry, paddocks were completely devoid of grass, it was a real dustbowl. And all this a half an hour's drive from the city. More rain please (less fog maybe but definitely more rain<G>)
cheers,
wayne papagene 06-15-2007, 09:23 PM Welcome to APUG Wayne. I'll try to send you some of the rain we keep having here in the US.
gene wayne naughton 06-15-2007, 09:52 PM thanks gene, please do.... just enough to fill the rivers and dams tho <grin>
wayne paul ewins 06-16-2007, 12:27 AM Welcome Wayne, from another Melburnian. My gear is mostly Pentax, Graflex and Cambo. The closest I come to Minolta is my Soviet era Almaz 103 which was apparently copied from a Minolta XK (although it looks like a Nikon F2 and has Pentax K mount).
I had fun shooting in the fog last night for a camera club competition. I really like the softness of the light from streetlamps in fog. After about 15 minutes the batteries quit but by then I was cold enough that I didn't care.
regards,
