Good to see another Minolta lurker. I don't believe that the finest gear requires the newest camera, nor a company with the biggest ad budget when the unit was originally made.

I am with Minolta because back when I was 17 my science teacher arranged a good package deal that about 5 of us bought in on for an x700 rig. That one lasted me til it got a soaker last year. There have also been a few SRT's and others along the years. Right now I am sold down to a SRT101 that I run B&W through, and a x570 that replaced the dead 700 and could still talk to the motor drive and dedicated flash units. Then there is my medium format Mamiya gear, and the wee rangefinder XA, and the junk and not so junk cameras that are fun too.

Is it just me, or do others find that once someone knows that you still shoot film, they give you their old camera?

I too have followed the drought situation. I lived in brizzie for almost 4 years. I hate to think of the dust that is blowing in parts of the country at present. I wish the continent all the best to fill up the Darling Murray basin and all the other parched watersheds.

I have friends who own a farm near Yackandandah, and I know they could use the rain. I'll be in Bright in late September.

Welcome Wayne from south east N.S.W. My son has a Minolta outfit which includes a SRT and XE1 plus 21, 28, 35, 50, 135 and 300mm lenses. All sits in the cupboard and is no longer used, just got too much stuff! The Xe1 is one of the nicest, or maybe the nicest, of all the Minolta SLR's..... hmm, maybe I'll get it out and shoot some pictures with it.

The Yackandah creek is currently at 66cm and steady, not exactly flood material, eh?

Australia certainly needs the rain. I remember last year, driving up through Myrtleford and thinking I've never seen it so dry. I'm sure looking forward to going again.

Thanks, for the welcome Mick. A few weeks ago i caught the train to Little River to photograph the bluestone bridge and i was absolutely shocked. Dams were dry, paddocks were completely devoid of grass, it was a real dustbowl. And all this a half an hour's drive from the city. More rain please (less fog maybe but definitely more rain<G>)

Welcome Wayne, from another Melburnian. My gear is mostly Pentax, Graflex and Cambo. The closest I come to Minolta is my Soviet era Almaz 103 which was apparently copied from a Minolta XK (although it looks like a Nikon F2 and has Pentax K mount).

I had fun shooting in the fog last night for a camera club competition. I really like the softness of the light from streetlamps in fog. After about 15 minutes the batteries quit but by then I was cold enough that I didn't care.
