View Full Version : Kelly from B.C., Canada kaygee 06-14-2007, 07:41 PM Hi all! Well I can't believe I just found this community - what a fantastic wealth of knowledge and talent!
My name is Kelly, I'm a photographer (aren't we all!) and screenprinter (that's the main source of income) from B.C., Canada.
I've been doing photography since I was given my first "real" camera - my good old trusty Pentax K-1000. From that moment on I was set! I have my own black and white darkroom set up where I spend many hours (although not enough in my opinion).
I've just recently though been getting myself "out there". A little write up in a magazine, and I've had four little shows this year, which I don't think is all too shabby!
I've also had my hand in filmmaking for years, mostly independent, playing various rolls from director, to cinematography, to the art department.

Welcome from Vancouver Island! We have a postcard exchange that you might be interested in. I've participated in about five. Thorney 06-15-2007, 12:46 PM Kelly,
Welcome aboard!
What part of BC are you from? The area bordering Alaska or the Yukon or the Northwest Territories, or Alberta, Montana, Idaho, or Washington? Or maybe bordering the Pacific??
Thorney pentaxuser 06-15-2007, 03:57 PM Welcome from me, pentaxuser B.C. In my case B.C. is a reference to my age not region. In some of the longer threads the combined age of the respondents' rivals that of Socrates, were he to have lived long enough to have joined us.
Our wisdom is of course even greater.
pentaxuser kaygee 06-15-2007, 08:45 PM Thanks everybody for the warm welcome and kind comments!
I'm currently heiling from Nelson, B.C. after spending the past five years in Vancouver. I must say - I like Vancouver better! If only for the fact that I'm not a small town person.
Drew - I most do definitely love my classic cars, someday I dream of buying and restoring my own '34 Ford Coupe. Rich Ullsmith 06-15-2007, 08:50 PM Hi Kelly. If you're ever passing through Bellingham on a weekend let me know. I got nobody down here to talk to about this stuff (sniff). Black Dog 06-16-2007, 04:30 PM Hi from one of the few (LOL) APUGGERS who doesn't live in BC or Canada,eh:) Justin Silber 07-01-2007, 06:32 AM I see I'm a few weeks past due here, but a welcome from sunny (then rainy... then sunny... then rainy... has it been an hour yet?) Nanaimo! FYI Black Dog, that's also in BC :p
- Justin fotch 07-01-2007, 12:13 PM Hello from SE Wisconsin. My wife and I visited Washington last year, where she grew up. We also took the boat across to Vancouver and stayed overnight in Sidney. Loved the area. Look forward to visiting again. rpsawin 07-01-2007, 01:19 PM Kelly,
Welcome from your neighbor to the south.
Bob Adam Nehr 07-01-2007, 09:44 PM Hi All,
I just found this group and felt it would be great to join in. I have made my living as a photographer for 35 years, starting with commercial, small product, annual report and magazine photography 1972-1988 and then moving to a speciality in aerospace work 1988-1996 and finally to photographic systems engineering at the Kennedy Space Center where I still am today. Commercial work is how I have fed my body but my soul has been fed by my large format B&W work. I got published and exhibited whenever I wanted to with my landscape and portrait work but my recent project has gone down in flames after a really promising start, due to my desire to actually make some relevant images that reflect society. I have had two major shows with this work but the political backlash and resulting censorship have made venue for this project scarce. Part of the problem is that I mixed documentary, fine art and illustrative techniques and nobody in the gallery and museum world knows what to make of it. The second reason is that the work evokes strong reactions and finally I use nudity metaphorically which is a major faux pas down here in the deep south. I was wondering if any of you have experienced the sharp blade of censorship or am I just unlucky?
Enough complaining, I am well versed on zone system, large format, lighting, set building, Darkroom, B&W printing Optics and photographic systems tech. I will be glad to contribute to the discourse on these subjects. If you want to see where I am coming from visit my site at www.issuesandicons.com
Stay well,
Adam Nehr kaygee 07-02-2007, 12:05 AM Hi Adam - taking a look through your photography, I'm definitely loving your latest series. |
