Just got a Leica IIIa in good order apart from having the screw collar around the shutter release missing (which often happens, since you have to take the collar off to put a cable release on). Does anyone have one or know where I might get one (have tried several repairmen and Leica specialists in UK)?

Regards,

David

I should have known - no matter what the question, the answer is ebay!

Apparently this supplier has quite a lot of remanufactured parts of the kind which might be missing on old Leicas:

The camera works fine without it anyway.

It wil certainly work for a while, eventually the shutter release will pick up dirt and not operate smoothly. For $12 plus postage, I think I'd rather have the camera the way the maker intended!

The older Nikons (F) had the same threaded collar, as did the Yashica TLRs. It might be easier to find one of them.

Dear David,

As far as I recall (I've not tried it for years) the locking collar from a bicycle inner tube fits...

Cheers,

Roger
