I got Aggie's portfolio too. What a project!

First impression--those bellows really stick in my mind. More later.

I just joined the postcard exchange and was able to find the Ilford postcard stock in my local shop.

If this question has been answered, please don't flame me;

For printing from 6x6 negs, do people crop to fit the postcard or print full-frame? I know that this may be an asthetic (sp) choice, but I would like to know what people are doing already.

Thanks
Roger

I usually print my 6x6 negs square, but that doesn't mean you need to do it that way. It's up to you.

Hey Aggie --- Holy Cow! what a treat. I would say that 9, 21, 22 & 24 are my undisputed favorites. - simplicity and composition are wonderful. My second string would be 5, 16 17 & 20. They are all very very good. Your technique is great and - what a great find that farm is! wow! anyway - Thanks so much!

Found a thick envelope in my mailbox today - Aggie's "Magnum Opus" has set a new transatlantic speed record!

I'll have to digest it for a while before I comment...

Ole

Received your postcard today (1st one since joining) and besides the postal 'scratches' its a great shot.
This project reinforces the fact that silver is still better than electrons and conveys atmosphere that the screen cannot. I look forward to submitting and receiving like a kid does to Christmas :)

Thanks

Phill

I received two absolutely beautiful postcards in the mail today:

Frank Hovie's Multnoma falls photo which displays a very delicate range of tones with the waterfall standing out. The water draws me in and the bridge keeps me there: its detail is astounding! I would love to see a larger version of this print.

I also received Ole's figure study which he had posted to the gallery. This is a very sensitive portrait and the creamy skin tones just melt into the black. The only thing I don't like: the post office bent and scratched it! Wonderful print.

In a way, I consider the "postal scratches" to be a part of the postcard project? As long as they're sent unprotected as ordinary mail, there is no way they are going to be "fine prints" - at least not on arrival!

So I try to choose negatives that can be printed without manipulations, will look good in the small size, and will still be interesting when the postal services have finished with them.

This one (as well as one of my previous ones) seemed to scream out for toning.

I'm glad you liked it!

well, it's not the scratching that bothers me, it's the big sticker they put on some of them... sometimes it just doesn't come very easily and takes some of the photo with it.

I'm trying to figure out what to send as my next photo, with everything I've seen nothing seems worthy. I may have to cull through some more of my negs and try to find something interesting at least.

I'm with Ole. The scratches and stickers, and postage stamps are all part of the project, I display them as is.

I also figure all the postal artifacts are part of the deal. A while back I suggested looking for images that would make use of them, and Frank S. sent out a beautiful card of a snow fence in winter with extra space on the bottom for a very sympathetic postal bar code.

On the back cover of one of the volumes of _Maus_, Art Spiegelman does something similar with the bar code and a prisoner's striped uniform.

Ole,

Just received your card. The mail sure is fast from Norway to Canada! Great shot! I will be in the darkroom early next week printing some postcards.

Thanks!
Roger

This past week I have received Aggie's farm series and very impressive it is; Frank's waterfall, great location but I'd like to see a little more sparkle in the water Frank; David's 125th St Vincent, brought back lots of memories of the last time I was in that area about 2 years ago; Bmac's beach, very reminiscent of Durness, my favourite beach in the far north of Scotland; Finally, Ole's toned nude complete with postal scratches that took nothing away from a very moody image.

My next card will be in the post tomorrow before I enter hospital for a few days to have an operation on my ear so I'll be out of commission for about 5 days.

Thanks, Les. I need to work on my penmanship. That's "125th St. Viaduct."

I hope things go well Les. That postacard edition was a little darker than most of my larger versions. - I know exactly what you mean on "saprkle" - I appreciate your comments.
