View Full Version : Postcards I no longer have the ME, nor the 40mm...
when I sold the ME (to get something which could be used on manual), I let the 40mm go with it. I figured it fitted the camera so well. I kept the other lenses I had - a 28mm, a 35-105 and a 70-210. I still use them, although my wife seems to have taken over that camera. philldresser 03-20-2004, 04:44 PM A short note of thanks to the latest postcard publishers. I just returned home to these 4 in one week
Thanks

Bruce(Camclicker)Osgood Ailsa 03-29-2004, 05:07 AM I'm feeling very guilty, because I've received some lovely postcards in the past few weeks, and I haven't got round to printing some up myself (and I believe it was me who said, a while back, that it would be great if we could all get one out by the end of January. Ahem).
I have rather a lot going on at the moment, and am off on holiday next week, but once I return, around the middle of April, I promise to get back in the darkroom... David A. Goldfarb 03-29-2004, 09:07 AM I just got back to New York after two weeks away and was delighted to find a whole stack of beautiful work in my mailbox. Thanks to all the participants and I'm glad to see this is moving again. photomc 04-18-2004, 01:28 PM Found a nice little jewel in the mailbox yesterday from Nige, nice little postcard. Wasn't sure how it all worked so thought I might have missed the current round..let me tell you I felt like a kid at Christmas. I have 33 names on a list and 33 post cards to go with them.
Here is hoping I see 32 (Nige's is already here) in the mailbox in the days to come. This is so cool, now something worthwhile in the mail, not just bills and junk mail.
Thanks, As Mike and I worked out, I forgot to add him to my Postcard mailing list, so everyone won't know he's joined... well you do now :)
Mike (and anyone else thinking about joining) we don't have 'rounds' but a free form 'you sent me one, I'll send you one' system, where hopefully you'll get one back from the people you send it too (hint... I'm expecting one from you Mike :) ) Keep track of what you've done, cause you may not get one back straight away (people operate at different speeds), or even ever, and the next time you send some out you'll want to know who you should continue sending to.
I'll send everyone (except those that their mail bounces!) the new files tonight.
Cheers, Nige Jeremy 04-18-2004, 10:31 PM My darkroom facilities have been come and go for a long time now for a number of different reasons. Would anyone have a problem with me sending digital inkjet prints instead of silver gelatin postcards? fine by me (you wouldn't be the 1st one anyway!) Aggie 04-18-2004, 11:57 PM If you took it with film, I have no problem! David A. Goldfarb 04-19-2004, 12:03 AM Made a batch this afternoon, but my exposures seem to have drifted so the ones toward the end are darker than I would have liked--grrrrrrrrr. I've never noticed this with my condensor enlarger, but I don't often do runs of 40 prints, and maybe it's a developer temperature thing or some such. I'll see if I have enough to go out. I usually send them to the full list, but if I'm short a few, I may omit those from whom I've never received a card. Jeremy 04-19-2004, 01:24 AM I will have to go get a stack of inkjet postcard paper this week then! Will work on them after my term papers are due and finals are done (2 weeks). frank 04-26-2004, 09:38 PM It is with some regrets that I have reached the decision to withdraw my name from the postcard list. It has become so large that the job of printing 30 or so prints is just too daunting and ceases to be fun. I will send the odd card to a few people from whom I have recieved postcards in the past that have excited me in the hope of receiving one in return from them, but I can't uphold my commitment to printing for the entire list. This was a great idea and I enjoyed it initially but now it's just gotten too big for me and I can't spend the time necessary to devote to this worthy project. Thank you all! wiseowl 05-16-2004, 08:13 AM Hi,
I'm interested in joining the postcard list but am unclear on the rules. Could someone please post a brief outline of what is expected?
eg is it a card to everyone once a month, or to a limited number once a month (week?)
Sadly having to print 30 cards every month on top of what I already do would prove too time consuming for me, I'd rather know what I'm getting into before joining and maybe wasting other peoples time.
Cheers
Martin Martin,
The postcard group sends out cards when you Want to. It is not a a "once a Month" type of deal. To join send Nige a note.
lee\c wiseowl 05-16-2004, 09:15 AM Thanks for clearing that up for me Lee.

Martin wiseowl 05-19-2004, 05:27 PM Hi All,
glad to be aboard, all I need to do now i decide what to print first.
Regards
Martin The list has been updated, thanks Nige :) wiseowl 06-04-2004, 03:08 PM I've sent out the first batch. Printed on Multigrade postcard stock, pearl finish. I'm disappointed in the depth of the black I was able to achieve with this. Any suggestions on how to improve welcomed.
Cheers
Martin c6h6o3 06-06-2004, 04:09 PM The list has been updated, thanks Nige :)
Would one of you please send me the Word docs for the updated list? I lost my C:\ drive recently and had to reformat it.
I'd like to send out another postcard.
Thanks.

I print mostly fiber. When I print RC paper I keep it in the developer for 2 minutes instead of the recommended 1 minute, I find it gives me better blacks. Also toning will also improve the blacks. I sent out about 75 cards of the PC stock last year and they came out pretty well. David A. Goldfarb 06-07-2004, 01:55 AM Ailsa seems to get a nice tonal range from the postcard paper. Ailsa, what's your secret? I also feel my blacks are a little flat on the Ilford postcard stock, though I ran some recently in Smith's amidol for enlarging paper, which I had left from a run of some other prints, and that looked a little better than what I was getting before in Neutol WA and Dektol. I'm not sure I have one! I do tend to have to print a little harder with it than I would normally, and I leave them in the dev slightly longer than recommended, but I just use bog standard Multigrade developer.
I really wish you hadn't said this, because I have to rather shamefacedly admit that the batch of postcards that's been lying around my flat for a fortnight, waiting to be posted, is decidedly flat. I rushed them a bit, and it was only when I'd printed the lot (and taken about two hours to do so) that I realised I should have made them half a grade harder. I don't really want to send them out, but I can't really afford to re-do them! I have a feeling that my pride will take over eventually and soon you will find me in the darkroom, cursing the day I ever joined the postcard group... David A. Goldfarb 06-10-2004, 12:14 PM I've had that feeling too. Once I just sent them out because the postcard group was flagging a bit, and there just needed to be another postcard, but my last one that I though wasn't quite right, I started reprinting and ran out of paper before I had enough, so that batch is going to wait a few weeks until I can print another 20 or so. Aggie 06-10-2004, 04:46 PM Ailsa, go ahead and send them out. I have one batch I thought was in the easel perfectly centered. Turns out I printed the full batch with one side going off and a big white border on the other. You send yours, and i'll send mine. We are not pro's we are having fun with this. Eric Rose 06-10-2004, 04:49 PM Seems i must be off the list as I haven't sent any out lately. Bad Eric! I will have to get back into the groove. |
