View Full Version : Postcards I got MrCallow's work of art yesterday... We had an 15min discussion about it in the office. I explained how it was done, they (and I) discussed what we thought about it. I've heard that the mail room girls are talking about my mail too! This morning it was mentioned that I didn't receive any postcards today!
Frank, funny you say that... try standing outside on a sunny day and viewing http://apug.org/forum/html/emoticons/smile.gif (others have also had that opinion) Maybe I print darker than others! I did print a lighter version but didn't like it. I agree with your comments regarding tangible things versus web images!
I'm planning on getting a bit more adventurous with my next ones! Eric Rose 03-25-2003, 08:45 PM Nige, I like to print kind of dark to, but I have finally came to the conclusion that if you have to look at it outdoors or have a mega light on it to see the detail, it's to dark. So now I print one for me, and one for the rest of the world. frank 03-25-2003, 10:11 PM Nige,
I've gone through 'darker' printing periods too - this may be something that fluctuates to satisfy current needs/moods/neuroses. I can see that printing it lighter would result in a lack of satisfying blacks/dark values, due to low contrast in the scene. A higher contrast grade of paper or contrast filter would likely correct this. Only if you have the time or inclination, would you do me a favour and print this image again, lighter and with a 1 grade harder paper/filter?
>>>Please totally disregard this suggestion if you find it presumptuous of me!
Frank (Come towards the light, Nige!) I like the print, although I am a nororious dark printer myself http://apug.org/forum/html/emoticons/smile.gif Frank, I'll print the pic that I had actually intended to (without the 6 bladed highlight!!!) a teeny little bit lighter for you... Won't even include it in your (postcard) quota http://apug.org/forum/html/emoticons/wink.gif BTW, I recommend looking at your pic before banging out 10 or more like I did! ok Frank, revised card on the way! I'm sure you'll like it better.. I think I even do http://apug.org/forum/html/emoticons/smile.gif (it's a better pic too IMO)
Got your 2nd installment today (not a bad little house!!!), and one from Aggie! jd callow 03-28-2003, 09:27 PM I got Scott's postcard today. Very nice. I got Aggies and another from Frank a few days back. I love this postcard thing! My next postcard is going to be exciting (for me). I've got a one-person show coming up in May and y'all will be gitting the postcard. I also expect you to come. Eric Rose 03-31-2003, 10:24 PM Gee hasn't anyone got my card yet? Must be holding them at the border and scanning them for SARS or something. Eric, I don't think so.. have to check my pile. I got Les's 'digital' and another from Scott yesterday. I have it ... "Near Banff" - on Ilford RC Portfolio.
Really good work. They all have been *outstanding*. A tribute to the group here.
I've gotta get the paper and squeeze mine in somewhere .. David Hall 04-01-2003, 11:38 AM Just got Aggie's cards...
There is a 6x12 contact print from Yosemite (a FRESH perspective of Yosemite, by the way) that will blow you away.
dgh David A. Goldfarb 04-01-2003, 11:57 AM I got Eric's, Aggie's 6x12, and Les's digital, all fine work! Eric Rose 04-01-2003, 12:01 PM Phew,,,Thanks guys. David Hall 04-01-2003, 12:09 PM EricR,
Did you send me one? I was hoping for a contact print (on Azo, of course) of the Boxer Avatar.
dgh Eric Rose 04-01-2003, 02:45 PM I think I did David. Your name was added to the list after I did up the rest of them. If you don't get one by the end of the week let me know. I am working on a very special picture just for you and Aggie.
Hopefully the mailperson won't object!
Eric Aggie 04-01-2003, 03:11 PM .. Eric Rose 04-01-2003, 05:36 PM My previsualization included a lake, but since they will be frozen over until probably June I will have to use the bathtub. Or maybe a swimming pool, but then I would probably be asked to leave.
The lighting is going to be tricky as some parts of the photo will be very white. I will have to do some testing with films and developer combinations to get just the right tonality.
Eric fingel 04-01-2003, 09:32 PM Nope, I didn't get anything from you yet Eric. I got Les' digital card today, maybe tomorrow. My darkroom is dark at last!
I've been printing postcards today, will be sent out tomorrow.
Remind me not to experiment with new chemicals when I've got 12 postcards to make... Aggie 04-03-2003, 01:31 PM .. David A. Goldfarb 04-03-2003, 01:49 PM Sounds like a light leak of some sort. Were you doing something like enlarging the negs, storing them up in a box, and then developing them in batches (as I often do)? Maybe there is something in the way you are storing the undeveloped sheets before processing, or if you don't put the sheets in a box or opaque bag, it could be a light leak from the enlarger fogging the undeveloped sheets. Aggie 04-03-2003, 01:56 PM .. glbeas 04-03-2003, 04:17 PM Aggie, did you have the paper out under the safelight for any extended period of time? The lines sound to me like fogging with another sheet laying on top to create the edge. How safe is your safelight? glbeas 04-03-2003, 04:18 PM Aggie, did you have the paper out under the safelight for any extended period of time?
