View Full Version : Is Emulsion magazine still being produced? THardy 08-09-2007, 06:22 PM I'd like to know if this magazine still exists? I hear that the 3rd issue was out in April 2007, but I didn't receive it. Someone said that the 4th is being put together now.
What is going on? Can I expect anything from them?
I've already emailed them...

Do you mean snail mailing a letter to Utah? This is what you get when clicking "contact us".
Editorial Offices:
EMULSION Magazine
PO Box 367
Hurricane, Utah 84737
I've emailed them via two different email addresses.
sales@emulsionmagazine.org which is given in the website and one is
aggie@....... I found using the records from my PAYPAL account.
I contacted her three times with this address in previous months and had messages returned. jd callow 08-09-2007, 06:53 PM Other than the web addy I can't help -- I have no contact information for them. John McCallum 08-09-2007, 07:00 PM From the website, the contents of the current issue look interesting. At least three APUG'ers contributed articles. And some colour, too. This is a company owned by Dave Parker who I know did some work with Emulsion some time ago. He may still be involved so it's worth a try. copake_ham 08-09-2007, 07:08 PM I plunked for a two-year subscription and have received all three issues that I know were published. It's a quarterly and the fourth for the first year should be due about now. We'll see.
It is a very fine publication but I have heard of a number of folk not getting issues - more from outside the US than inside (maybe mailing rate problems?). And yes, I understand that snail mail is the only known way of trying to contact them.*
It's really not that hard to mail a postcard. So if I were in your position I'd trot down to the P.O. and send one off.
* Besides, isn't it kind of quaint that an analog-oriented magazine doesn't respond to e-mails? ;) David A. Goldfarb 08-09-2007, 07:08 PM Aggie posted recently on the LF forum that the 4th issue is due out in the not too distant future, so my impression is that they are still in business. BWGirl 08-09-2007, 07:24 PM Yeah, issue 4 is in set-up. There were a few snags, but it shouldn't be too much longer.
If you didn't get the 3rd issue, pm me with your email & I will let Aggie know. :D THardy 08-09-2007, 07:37 PM Thanks for all your help guys. This wouldn't be frustrating if I weren't addicted to Photo mags. :p
Oh well. scootermm 08-09-2007, 08:23 PM For those in the know (as I have only received 2 issues), have there actually been 4 issues printed in a calendar year? copake_ham 08-09-2007, 08:36 PM For those in the know (as I have only received 2 issues), have there actually been 4 issues printed in a calendar year?
As I recall, the first Emulsion quarterly was released in the fourth calendar quarter of 2006 (i.e. b/w Oct. 1 and Dec. 31).
The second quarterly was very timely and released around the middle of the first calendar quarter of 2007 (i.e. b/w Jan 1 and March 31)
Ditto the third quarterly which was release around the middle of the second calendar quarter of 2007 (i.e. b/w April 1 and June 30).
So the fourth quarterly (and last of their first year publication) should be released by about now (i.e. in the third calendar quarter of 2007) - but would not be late so long as sent prior to September 30th. David A. Goldfarb 08-10-2007, 08:54 PM You might try satinsnowglass.com

I just exchanged e-mails with Aggie and she says Dave isn't involved with the magazine these days. Dave's wife does press checks, but they aren't particularly in contact more than a few times a year for this. I don't know that I can publicize Aggie's personal e-mail address, but you might try the e-mail link in her APUG profile. She also mentioned to me that she was having a hard time convincing the emulsion email account that not everything is 'spam'. Technology. Also, she mentioned that Robert Hall is another option if you can't get a hold of her. eddie gunks 08-12-2007, 08:50 PM back on topic.
i love emulsion magazine. i have emailed them no less than 6 times. no response! i am trying to extend my subscription. i do not want to use the subscription page cause they still "owe" me issues. i was trying to get all of them and not miss an issue, but i also do not want to get 2 issues in one month casue of miscommunication.
bottom line. over the last 2 months they have not EVER returned my email. all i can say s that is bad business. if they have a contact online i should not have to send a snail mail to them. they should have their spam filter worked out. lets see if they actually survive this next issue....... and lets hope i get mine.
eddie THardy 08-13-2007, 04:01 PM The off topic name game thing was a bit of fun.
Some well connected folks here did get in touch with the people who run Emulsion (and got a response).
I'm holding out hope that the 3rd issue will arrive soon. THardy 08-13-2007, 04:10 PM I just exchanged e-mails with Aggie and she says Dave isn't involved with the magazine these days. I just looked over the thread....so based on the above, do we get the 3rd issue? And then the fourth when it is out? MenacingTourist 08-13-2007, 04:18 PM Don't feel so bad. I actually made the third issue and I don't have any copies. But I'm more patient than most.
Like someone said earlier, it's a labor of love rather than money. Aggie has dropped good money from her own pocket to make it work and this is literally the work of three people. The magazine has never claimed to be anything else and I feel that's part of what makes it special (and somewhat of a miracle).
Alan. David A. Goldfarb 08-13-2007, 04:30 PM I thought I had received the third issue, but we just moved to a new apartment, and my photo magazines are in storage for the moment, so I can't be sure of that. catem 08-13-2007, 04:35 PM I've received the first three issues exactly when expected and am looking forward to the fourth. roteague 08-13-2007, 04:35 PM Don't feel so bad. I've seen the first issue - David Goldfarb showed me his when he was here last year. The only issue I've seen. I am hoping to get the fourth issue. michael9793 08-14-2007, 09:59 PM I'd like to know if this magazine still exists? I hear that the 3rd issue was out in April 2007, but I didn't receive it. This is funny that I found this. I just E-mailed them Monday regarding the same thing and no reply. Well there goes our money. Don't think i will support a magazine that doesn't keep up with the subscribers. Saw it coming and wanted to have a new magazine so bad I subscribed. Kind of like lodima printing paper. David A. Goldfarb 08-16-2007, 11:31 AM Okay, since some people may actually be interested in the status of Emulsion magazine and might not want to have to wade through 11 pages of off topic banter, I'm going to temporarily close this thread, move the off topic stuff to a new thread in the Lounge, and clear it out of this thread.
Okay--post off topic remarks here--

Off topic posts are now deleted.
Please keep the discussion to _Emulsion_ magazine in this thread, and go to the other thread for off topic discussion. Received the first 3 issues just fine and also look forward to the next one.
jan jgcull 09-14-2007, 07:54 PM I subscribed and the money was taken from my credit card, but I haven't gotten any notice of anything. I'm hoping a magazine will come. ??? |
