View Full Version : View Camera mag issue Guillaume Zuili 08-13-2007, 02:39 PM Hi,
I paid my 2 years subscription in late june and I didn't receive anything yet.
I emailed them, called them... No response so far.
Any of you had the same issue ?
Best,
Guillaume f/stopblues 08-13-2007, 02:57 PM I signed up last year and it took 4 months to get my first issue. I never found out why, but they came consistently after that. Good luck! Pinholemaster 08-13-2007, 03:41 PM View Camera is a very small operation. They don't have the depth of resources as a Condé Nast, or Time Life. Next to driving over to New Mexico and knocking on their door, I suggests patience and a few more phone calls. bdial 08-13-2007, 03:53 PM You could also try PM'ing Ted Harris, or send him an email. THardy 08-13-2007, 03:54 PM There seems to be all sorts of problems with magazine subscriptions these days. I'm also trying to get the people at Focus (as well as another small magazine) to send my issues in a timely manner. jstraw 08-13-2007, 04:14 PM Magazines are SO 20th century. roteague 08-13-2007, 04:37 PM Steve Simmons regulary posts over on LF. Send him or Ted a PM. They will take care of getting them to you. Peter Williams 08-13-2007, 04:50 PM I had the same problem getting my subscription going a couple of years ago. I didn't renew. Guillaume,
As others have suggested, a phone call or PM will probably get your question answered in short order.
Keep in mind View Camera is published bi-monthly. It usually ships to subscribers between the 1st and 10th of the month. How long it takes en route is a function of the US Postal Service and out of the control of View Camera. It doesn't go first class (I believe it's "Media Mail", which used to be called second class). So, the shipping times are longer, especially to get to the west coast (the publisher is located in New Mexico, but the magazine is printed back east and shipped to subscribers from the printer).
It sounds like you missed the June/July issue (which would have shipped prior to ordering your subscription) and will likely be receiving the Aug/Sep issue within the next week or so (assuming it shipped on schedule and the Postal Service gets it to you with reasonable dispatch).
Kerry Vincent Frazzetta 08-13-2007, 04:56 PM I've learned that subscriptions to even the most wonderful little magazines are often handled by a specialized service located who-knows-where, and their indifferent service may not be a reflection of the nice folks who do the publishing. ReallyBigCameras 08-13-2007, 05:05 PM Also, keep in mind that, unlike many mass market publications, View Camera is actually published in the month listed on the cover - not months ahead of time. Back when I used to get Popular Photography I always got my issue a month and a half or more prior to the date on the cover. A quick trip to Barnes & Noble or Borders will show that many large circulation periodicals show up on the newsstand a month or more ahead of the cover date. By contrast, View Camera regularly shows up on the racks at my local book stores around the 17th or 18th of the month on the cover.
Kerry Guillaume Zuili 08-13-2007, 07:54 PM Thanks for the feedback. I will continue my calls and emails in a kindly manner. Nota bene : I was a subscriber when living in France, then when I moved to the US too. There was a lapse of one year maybe before I commited again and this is the first time I get no response.
G. Rlibersky 08-13-2007, 09:39 PM I had the same problem with Camera Arts. Just received the July/August issue Saturday. Some of the adds are out of date. I've been a suscriber since the started publishing. BrianShaw 08-14-2007, 02:46 PM I'm a bit surprised to read that you're having problems getting ahold of Steve or his staff, G. Over the past couple of years I've emailed him a couple of times and had prompt replies; I've also called his office a couple fo times and always had someone pick up the phone. Maybe I was just lucky??? Your decision to give persistance a chance sounds like a good solution! |
