The Positive Post Thread Rules;

1) Only positive posts allowed.

2) Negative posts will be ignored.

3) Shame, film scratches, exhausted fixer, dust specks, and all manner of heinous unsightly photographic plagues be upon the initiators and violators of rule #2!!!!

Here we go :)

In the last week or so, fall has finally started to show itself on BC's north coast and I LOVE IT! The elderberry leaves are starting to turn yellow, flocks of robins and geese are gathering to migrate, salmon are returning to the rivers, there's been snow on taller mountains, the all day cold rains have returned cloaking mountains in mist, and this is the time of year my photographic juices start to run wild!!!

Anyways...I just had to share my glee in the coming Monsoons, the resultant deciduous forest decay, and the inevitable snows of winter in this, my most favourite corner of our isolated little planet :) :) :)

What's your contribution?

Murray

Personally I'll forgo the"all day cold rains" for picture taking in that part of the country. Too wet, too cold, and it never stops. I forgot about the wind. How do you handle your large format camera in those conditions? I would think to keep your powder dry (for the flash of course) you would have to shoot out the door of a tent!
Seriously, if you have some tricks for the camera under those conditions, I'd like to hear them.

Dear Murray,

It can't all be positive, because you need the contrasts. Miserable, cold, grey, overcast day: nice warm darkroom...

Cheers,

My best friends mom passed away in April.Don found a number of old negatives while going through her possessions.I was able to print this immage for him.Turned out to be the wedding party road trip through rural New Brunswick circa 1940.
This photo had never been seen by Don or his family.Blew him away.A good day.

I found a GREAT matting paper for my freshly printed series "Athens II"... although it REALLY expensive (100% rag...), I think I'll use it... alongside with the GREAT virtually invisible glass (96% UV protection) that the guy showed me... there go my savings... but it's worth it !

That may well be the single coolest thing I've ever see on APUG. :)

My positive contribution: I have more vacation time than I thought, so I'm spending time in the Ozark mountains this fall. Trout fishing right next to my father, beers with my little brother, and a YashicaMat none too removed from Mark Hama's own hands. Nothing but 120 this time down.

Hi Johnny. Here's some north coast tips - When the wind is howling, stay in the forest or in the lee corner of pocket beaches and try to trip the shutter between gusts. As for the rain? Have a raincoat and rainpants for yourself, and a tarp to lay your pack on to protect it from the mucky ground, but make sure it's big enough to fold over the pack to protect it from falling rain. Also, a poncho for your camera...where the lens hides and peeks out where ones neck should normally be. Lens tissue helps to swab up any rain drops that find your darkslides or lenses. Oh, and hold your breath while focusing or setting shutter speeds or apetures or you'll fog up the whole works!

Hi Roger. Miserable doesn't enter into the equation, because without the cold rains of fall the rainforest I love so much wouldn't exist :)

Hi Heather. Hope you bag that bag!

Hi Mike. A better response I couldn't have imagined!!!

Good night my APUG family, time for bed...seek the positive :) :) :)

I scanned my inlaws slides - 200 very fine kodachrome snaps! Mother-in-law seemed happy to see them because at the time she didn't want to look at the slides of her mother so soon after her death. I'm going to spend the next few months removing dust and crud from the scans then hopefully print them out and give them as a christmas present. We made a video cd slide show of them but they don't look very good on their TV and prints are nicer anyway.
We found lots of undeveloped film. I developed a 126 c-22 as B&W and have some rather decent negs from it. I developed a 127 agfa isopan iss roll too but those photos aren't so good from a photographer/camera problem sense unfortunately. Need to get those all printed too.

The best part of scanning those slides was spotting a camera in a picture that I currently own and use - the good ol' Ilford Sporti :)

Oh and I'm happy because I did printing yesterday of my own photos (usually am printing photos for someone else or printing hubby's pictures).

And you've reminded me to be sure to catch it before it disappears, thank you! Now I have something to look forward to (might also check out those bags!)

Sorry, Murray, meant 'miserable weather' not 'miserable me'.

Well, it's abeautiful day in Wisconsin. I get pretty excited at this time of year with the anticipation of crisp fall air and turning leaves. I can't wait!

I've just turned 55 this past week and I've had a chance to look back over my life. It's been a good one so far... with ups & downs, but hey... isn't that what it's all about? What a lucky BWGirl I am! :D

We are going to a Civil War re-enactment today. I hope to get some great pics! :)

My wife and I are going to Calloway Gardens for a night or two this weekend. Theres a hot air balloon festival going on and they do a "glow" in the evening where the inflate the balloons after dark and light them up like Chinese lanterns.

I'm trying to arrange a photo shoot to work on one of my series. If that falls through, I'll just go to the Renaissance Festival and indulge in a little retail therapy, 16th century style.

Alice ordered 30,000 pound of gravel for the yard, which arrived by truck yesterday. Oh joy, we get use the wheel barrow and shovel for some exercise! Jeanette, I turned 56 last month, so you're catching up with me. Want to drop by for some shovel time to celebrate?

The three day Labor Day weekend will be fun, as the asphalt plant will let us in for some shooting early this morning. Shovelling, shooting and a BBQ, what could be better? The best part of it is that our crisp "fall weather" is here now and it will be less than 100 degrees for a change! tim

Absolutely beautiful here at this time of year. Warm and sunny in the daytime, goes down to 5-10C at night. No bugs. Crisp mornings. Stroll through my son's property with my Rolleiflex around my neck and a .22 in my hand looking for partridge. Doesn't get much better than this.

Always wanted to go to one of those Civil War events with a LF camera and get some group photos. I keep seeing those 4X5 tintype kits you use with your enlarger and wonder how well they work.

Oh sure .... rub it in :) .... I'm still four weeks away from being on our property in Monteith, with my new Rolleicord around my neck, my .22 on the sling and my bro-in-law and his three daughters wandering with me. We'll be spending a week, maybe ten days there, doing a bit more clearing for the house and garage/repair shop.

This weekend I'm off to scrounge some old spalted wood from an acquaintance and work on my wood turning skills. Tomorrow we're off to Ontario's highest elevation (I think), Foymount, for a "coffee and doughnuts road trip" and some photos.

cheers all - only positive thoughts eh?

Beautiful day today! It'll be warm, but the morning is nice and chilly, signalling a beautiful autumn approaching. Autumn is always my favourite season, I love the changing leaves and sitting outside with my pipe, a coffee, and a good book in the chilly air. On another good note, I found that the Canadian chain Henry's carries suitable bulbs for my enlarger (which conked out on me while doing my printing for the print exchange) so I will not have to pay to bring them in from the States!

Polaroid Sepia is MAGIC for this!

I've just had 3 great days down in the Lakes MTBing, including cycling up Helvellyn (a few bits where you have to push) and an epic circuit of all the fells back o' Skidda (a red squirrel ran across the track just a few feet in front of me, too). My homemade apple, tomato and mango chutney turned out great, as did my flapjacks, and I'm on my way....from misery to happiness today:):):)

Some of those tintype kits are meant to be shot in-camera. You coat the plate, let it dry, then expose in-camera, and process in what is essentially a paper developer.

Probably very slow asa. The kit I saw also allowed you to print using an enlarger. Something to try someday...

No 'black dog' hanging over you today, then. Sounds a good day :) I remember red squirrels as a youngster in Suffolk - no longer.

Realise I didn't say anything positive-to-me really in my post. Six years (can't believe it) after moving into this house we've spent three weeks intensive decorating, including stripping some wood on the stairs. It looks and feels - at last - like a completely different house :) :) I wander around it in disbelief and pleasure....
