Multiple email addresses are handy sometimes. Sign up for gmail or something and use that for all of the "here there be dragons" kinds of things. Paul VanAudenhove 09-06-2007, 06:03 PM added.... Actually, you have at least 3 (even though I haven't signed up). :p Andy K 09-07-2007, 07:06 AM I avoid sites like facebook, myspace, bebo etc. like the plague. Apart from the fact that they are aimed at kids, everyone I want to be in touch with, I am in touch with. People I am no longer in touch with, I am not in touch with for a reason.
Also Facebook has recently announced it is going to open up private profiles to search engines. Facebook opens profiles to the public (http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/technology/6980454.stm). arigram 03-30-2008, 03:15 PM I just joined Facebook.
I am 18 years on the Internet, everything you want to know about me is all there anyway and I thought it would be a good place to meet other photographers (that don't hang out in APUG) and models.
If someone is interested in suggesting a related group to join or want to be my friend (!), I am all yours! HerrBremerhaven 03-30-2008, 11:25 PM Be very careful about posting images to Facebook. Read their terms of service thoroughly. They are too open about how they want to be able to use your images. I would suggest that if you have images used commercially, or do photography as a profession, you limit how many images you place on Facebook. A better usage would be links to your business website, or other limited usage.
Okay, so after all the disclaimer, you can find me there (http://www.facebook.com/pages/Gordon-Moat/14732240065) too, and my personal page here (http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=839399390). I have a greater presence on MySpace (http://www.myspace.com/gordonmoat), and another portfolio on Uber (http://www.uber.com/gordonmoat); the latter I consider a better alternative for working photographers, though Uber is very new and not as well known. Getting your name out there is important for working creative professionals, so these are nice alternative tools that take little time to set-up and maintain. I doubt I would ever pay for these types of resources.
Ciao!

At least if I delete them I hope I won't have to deal with any issues in the future.
Too bad as I thought a few samples would attract people to my work.
Btw, if you ever wanted to know everything about me and were afraid to ask, there you are!
I even have my political and religious views for all to see! tim rudman 03-31-2008, 05:30 AM Shit.

My understanding is that if you delete them they only go from the site - not Facebook's records.
Too much personal information is being made available to all and sundry to do whatever they want with. Seems unwise to me.

Yes, they stay there.
Since they are very low quality samples and that I now retain all my rights to them, I don't care much. After all I published those samples for promotion anyway.

Tim
I agree.
Call me desperate for attention and networking.
But, since I know that all major spy agencies of the world have all my information and have already put me in the black list and that I can just show my middle finger to spam companies, I am not that concerned about Facebook in particular.
I will be one of the first to round up by the next dictatorship anyway. Fintan 03-31-2008, 07:38 AM Nearly all photo sharing websites have similar T&C, for any image hosting, its best to host your images yourself.

Same here. And it's easier to maintain, too. arigram 03-31-2008, 10:28 AM So, Facebook is not different from MySpace.
Only good for silliness between friends and semi-strangers then?
And to think I was going for some serious networking... c6h6o3 03-31-2008, 01:52 PM I avoid sites like facebook, myspace, bebo etc. like the plague. Not to mention the fact that all these peer to peer sites are a hacker's wet dream. A clear text pipe straight through your firewall to the hard disk.
No thanks. Fintan 03-31-2008, 03:44 PM Theres a backdoor into just about everything these days. Facebook users should read this info, its not the definitive guide but will help;

Facebook is a little like a stripped down version of MySpace, and actually number two on social networking (MySpace being the biggest). The value is less being there, than increasing your overall web presence. In other words, it creates more link backs to your website, and gives you a larger footprint on the internet. This is all part of getting your name out there, which can only help you.
True professional networking is currently only done at LinkedIn.com, who are more of a directory than social networking. You can see my limited profile (http://www.linkedin.com/pub/4/944/630) on there. This listing has resulted in work for me, since it is more of a referral based directory.
Ciao!
